America's Next Top Model: The Girls Go Rock Climbing

by JJ Hawkins, posted Oct 4th 2007 8:50AM
It's time for Tyra mail

(S09E03) We're already at episode three of America's Next Top Model, and there's a definite villain emerging among this season's group of girls.

Had you asked me at the beginning who I thought the evil one was going to be, I'd have probably gone with Ebony. Turns out it's going to be Bianca, and I have a feeling she's going to make last cycle's resident demon (Renee) look like Mother Teresa when it's all said and done.

Here is some of the evil Bianca let loose on her peers during the show:

  • She intentionally gave some bad advice to one of the girls to sabotage her runway walk.
  • She verbalized the fact that she thinks Heather gets the pity vote due to her disabilities.
  • She gets into a shouting match with Saliesha and called her "borderline plus size." Keep in mind Saleisha much closer to "borderline too skinny." That cat fight led to the following rant:
  • "I will hit them where it hurts. I don't need to fight you to hurt you. I could really hurt you in this competition. I have no problem doing it. I will get real grimey. I'll start cutting up clothes. I could break these bitches down one by one. I refuse to let these bitches think I'm not a real model. Don't let the red hair fool you bitches. I can be very high fashion. Okay!" The cutting up clothes line killed me.
  • She actually compliments Heather later in the show, then immediately flushes the praise down the toilet by saying something about "needing to knock her down because she's doing to well and could hinder her own chances of winning." Awesome.
That all took place in a single hour. Renee was pretty bad, but she limited her bitchiness to one, maybe two instances of rudeness an episode. If Bianca can maintain this ridiculous pace for the duration of the cycle, she could rack up between 50-60 acts of unkindness. That's got to be some kind of record.

Miss J

The first piece of real business we saw tonight took place in Miss J's Fashion Madhouse, which ended up being a spooky looking psychiatric ward. Sadly, the scariest part of this sequence was seeing Miss J in a nurses outfit.

The models were stuffed into straight jackets and critiqued on how their model walk looked while in an outfit that limited movement. Saleisha definitely had the most polished walk, but that's to be expected considering she graduated from Tyra Camp.

On the other end of the spectrum stood Heather and Victoria (the latter of which I will now refer to as "Yale" since she brings up her Ivy league education frequently enough). I don't want to be too hard on the them, but neither would have too big a problem masquerading as a mummy or zombie this Halloween. I really hope they can loosen up a bit with their walking and overall demeanor as I'm finding myself to be a fan of the endearingly dorky duo.

The straight jacket walking was really just a lead-up to tonight's couture runway challenge in which the girls found themselves in guady costumes dresses tailored by Colleen Quen.

Let me be the first to admit that I don't know jack about jack when it comes to this couture style of fashion. I really just don't get it. Unless they were about to attend a party being thrown by Bjork, someone would have to be on a 24-hour crack binge to even consider wearing one of these outfits in public. I found most of the dresses to be repulsive, but I am a male and admittedly pretty ignorant to this kind of stuff. Am I off base here? Did you all find these things attractive?

Hit and run between Sarah and Ebony

Aside from a weird intentional looking collision that took place between Sarah and Ebony, nothing of real note occurred during the runway challenge. Saleisha ended up taking home the prize which included modeling some of Colleen Quen's fabric explosions at a Paris fashion show at some point in the future.

Tonight's photo shoot melded rock climbing and high fashion - a natural combination if I've ever seen one. I kid, but for the most part, the photos came out really beautifully with the best photos of the night coming from Jenah, Lisa, Heather, and Sarah.

I know I picked Janet to win this thing, but I'm finding myself really liking the photos that Jenah has taken these first three weeks. When you see her during normal portions of the show she looks like any other average person you'd come across in everyday life. However, when she's all made up and in a photo she's absolutely stunning. I'm sticking with Janet, but Jenah's my dark horse.

The order of the photos:

Jenah
Heather
Lisa
Chantal
Sarah
Ambriel
Yale
Saleisha
Janet
Ebony
Bianca

I honestly can't even remember the name of the girl who went home tonight (Kimberly?). That's how big of an impression she's made on me this cycle. As far as I'm concerned, the judges made the right decision.

Most evil model in the list?
Melrose - Cycle 772 (25.4%)
Renee - Cycle 826 (9.2%)
Bianca - Cycle 9185 (65.4%)

Please, For God's sake, get rid of Bianca ! She is evil, ghetto, and definately has no class about herself ! It is so unfortunate that this one lasted past the second episode. She sucks!!! As for the other young ladies, everyone is doing great !

Michael you need to relax. Where was your outrage last week when they DID show the models dressed as if they have cancer, tumors, a breathing hole etc. One girl was even laughing at herself. This was NOT meant to be disrespectful. I think you need to chill out and rethink things. You are way way way over sensitive to something that YOU are probably dealing with. With that comes overblown feelings. If you are going to be outraged, be outraged with the idea of a size 10/12 model being considered "plus size". Millions of people suffer from eating disorders. Where is your anger there? Or how about how the girls treat Heather? I could go on and on. Do you get my point? Its not meant to be intended for mockery. No one even made a mention towards that view point. Carry on with dealing with your mental health and others but stop looking into things.

What were the TV show executives thinking to allow such a mockery of all Americans and their families who struggle daily from the ravages of mental illness? Would the show's directors ever considered such ridicule of those suffering from cancer or other medical conditions? What would have been the response had the show ridiculed certain ethnic, racial or religious groups in our country?
Doesn't anyone at CWTV know how cruel, insensitive and demeaning such a show mocking people in straightjackets in a psychiatric ward with a nurse standing by really is? Where is the sensitivity, the caring, the understanding for those with mental illness in our country?
Call the CWTV executives at the corporate offices at 1-818-977-2500, Sr. Vice President Rick Mater. Ask him to explain this travesty to you and all Americans.

JJ- Bianca's horrible, but it won't mean anything unless there's a rivalry, a la Camille/Yoanna season 2, or the Eva/Ann lovefest/hatefest from season 3.

Although Melrose was mean spirited in cycle 7, she wasn't as mean as the girl in her cycle ( I can't remember her name). This girl was the one who poured water on another girl's bed to claim as her own. She also hogged the use of the phone one night & refused to get off although others needed to use the phone. She was constantly at odds with the other girls, and she gave Melrose hell. The girls appeared to be afraid of this girl. All the girls were relieved when this particular girl was eliminated. IMO,this girl's name should have been in your poll along with, if not instead of, Melrose. Concerning Bianca, her constant putting down the other girls just says to me that she has alot of insecurities about herself. I think in order for her to feel good about herself, she finds it necessary to make others feel bad about themselves.... During the elimination, I was really surprised that Saleisha's name was called near the bottom. She had won the runway walk & the judges liked her "skill" of hanging upside down in her climbing the rock photo. So why was her name so far down the list? If my memory correctly serves me, in previous eliminations when a girl has won a task & has taken a really good photo, her name is usually one of the first three called. I think the judges crtierias change from mood to mood, or from cycle to cycle.... As of now, my favorite is Lisa. And just for the record, "Yale" needs to chill & get off her high horse.

I know for a fact that I watched episode 2 but it feels like I've missed an episode. Since when did all the girls start being nice to Heather? Erm, except for Bianca. But that's a given.

Also, I'm surprised Tyra made the model house smoke-free and then completely dropping the subject. Do none of these girls smoke? Or is Tyra thinking that even bad publicity is good for business?

I am already sick of Bianca, I mean, we all know by now there is going to be one or two bitches in the house, but this one is an uber-bitch if I've ever seen one. Intentionally giving bad advice to someone? I thought I heard that wrong when she first said it! Why not just keep your mouth shut instead? I was soooo glad to see her in the bottom 2 as well.
And again, Heather took a killer picture, she is so pretty and her confidence is growing, but she does need to work on that walk.

I also thought the b-girl this season was going to be Ebony, but now I'm kind of rooting for her because she's just so awkward on camera. I can't stand Bianca, and I jumped up & down when she was in the bottom two. I'm glad she's staying for the makeovers, though - I'd LOVE to see her get her head shaved! (But then again, anything would be better than that red fake hair.)
