BSG: Razor Flashback - Day 4,571 - VIDEO

by Keith McDuffee, posted Oct 10th 2007 2:03PM
bsg razor logoThe days are ticking down to the Battlestar Galactica: Razor movie, coming to SciFi on November 24. Until then, SciFi is releasing what they're calling "Battlestar Galactica: Razor Flashbacks". I'm told we'll get these about every week until the movie premieres.

This one features a couple of seemingly new characters who were once on board the Galactica during the First Cylon War. Check it out after the jump.

[Sorry, the video had to be removed on 2007-11-26 per rules stated by the SciFi Network]

This flashback takes place towards the end of the first Cylon War - which lasted nearly 13 years.

Glad that the movie is finally starting to get close... More glad to hear my old favorite, "Nothing but the rain..." quote!

Timeline question …

So, the Cylons revolted 52 years prior to the destruction of the 12 Colonies.
The armistice treaty was signed over 40 years prior to the destruction of the 12 Colonies.
This means the war lasted maybe 12 years, but probably less (over 40 years).

But the flashback is occurring on day 4,571 which translates approximately to year 12.52.

So technically speaking, the flashback is occurring after the war was over …

Notes:
The Galactica was being retired as she reached approx 50 years in age, right at the time the 12 Colonies were destroyed. This means she was built 2 years after the war began.

Adama was at least 18 … (even if we assume the is was really the 12tth year of the war, which would make him around 5 when the war first broke out and at least 58 at the time of the destruction of the 12 Colonies

Well Keith, my side career is in video editing and production so I tend to be pretty picky about that. I would love to assist you but I don't work on the mac side of things (I primarily use Vegas or Avid for my editing and have a large selection of other programs with compression tools for making things on the web) so I don't know how much of a help I would be to you. Feel free to contact me off list if you think i might be able to help.

I don't have any expertise to comment about the quality
of the video. However - The gentleman picked to play young Adama appears to be an excellent choice. The voice is right (I have read the actor is very good with voices/accents) the look is right, the Apollo like nuances are right. The first flashback was engaging and enjoyable. (not meaning the sexual content)

Well, I actually encoded that video with the tools I've got, which ain't much. I've got the original QT version, but of course I'm not allowed to post it here in its raw form, nor to a public place like YouTube or Uncut. If anyone's got experience making these with ffmpegx on OS X, give me a hollar.

Well Keith, at least the youtube link I posted doesn't have gigantic interlace artifacts as this one does. The overall compression aint going to get much better unless scifi puts out a nice high quality divx or quicktime version which we know will never happen.

@Akbar -- Doesn't look a whole lot better than this one, but whatever.
