Roth joins Lost; bad news for Rescue Me?

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Oct 17th 2007 11:32AM

Andrea RothI'm not so sure how I feel about this. TV Guide's Ausiello is reporting that Rescue Me's Andrea Roth has been cast in a recurring role on ABC's Lost. She'll play a therapist that's being described as tough, no-nonsense, and obsessive. Kind of sounds like Janet Gavin.

Ausiello is optimistic that should Rescue Me get picked up for a fifth season, that Roth will be able to pull double duty. I hope so. It worries me that FX has been mum on a renewal and if it stalls much longer, who knows what Roth will do.

Presumably, she's under some sort of contract that will require her to reprise her role as Denis Leary's on-screen ex-wife, but it still makes me uneasy whenever I read casting news that affects my favorite shows. The real test will be to see if anyone else from Rescue Me jumps ship for another show.

Roth joins Lance Reddick, Ken Leung, Fisher Stevens, and Jeff Fahey as the newest island castaways. Rescue Me's fourth season finale aired last month. Lost returns for a fifth fourth season in February.

sexy andrea roth joining the cast? sign me up!! and she's an amazing actress. i agree, they don't give here enough to do on RESCUE ME. she's a stand-out actress who should have been nominated for some awards for a few years now. ah, well, if rescue me doesn't come back, at least i can see her beautiful face weekly on LOST.

i'm with cincinnatti mike...as much as i liked the show (particularly the first two seasons), this last season was a train wreck. i hope it's done, because if it's not then i'll feel obliged to sit through what would more than likely be another season of disjointed leary set pieces.

forget about bowing out gracefully. just bow out now and be done with it.

Whatever the decision is, I wish FX would make it soon. Is Rescue Me coming back or not FX executives?!

Between Lost and Heroes I'm going to go nuts with all the new characters. It gets draining trying to keep up and waiting for your favorite story and characters to come along again. Enough newbies already.

As for Rescue Me, they did a good job ending the show should it not be renewed with one of the best episodes of the season being it's last. I'll be okay either way, as much as I did love it in the past.

I consider myself a die-hard Rescue Me fan but, DAMN, this season was a mess. And all they gave Janet to do was lie on the couch depressed. I don't blame her for pursuing other opportunities. If the show comes back for a 5th season, it will likely be to tie up loose ands and bow out gracefully. This show was truly a masterpiece, but eventually it ran out of things to say.

Therapist? Sounds like possibly another 'anger managment' specialist for Locke if it's a flashback. Or, if it's a flashforward, possibly a post-traumatic stress specialist for Jack —she's got that Sarah/Juliet vibe.
