What if The Office was about the porn industry?

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 2nd 2007 3:20PM

Playboy logoWell, first off, all those "...that's what she said" jokes that Michael utters wouldn't seem so out of place.

Playboy TV has a new comedy (maybe NSFW) titled Canoga Park that they describe as an X-rated cross between The Office and Entourage. It's about the porn industry, and the channel says the show "does for premium television what Boogie Nights did for film: give the viewer side-splitting joyride through the adult film world and an intimate look at the smokin' hot characters who inhabit it."

Now, I've never seen a pornographic film, but I hear (though friends of mine who have actually seen one) that they involve naked people actually having sex on camera. Is that wild or what? I'll believe it when I see it.

You can see a sneak peek of the show tonight. The series officially starts next Friday night at 10pm.

So readers, finish this sentence (but please stay within the realm of good taste): "If The Office was set in the porn industry, then..."

I don't know who told you it's on this Friday, but I do not see it in the listings, on multiple sites and on my DVR.

I'd like to see it, but I don't want to have to pay for the whole channel subscription. I really liked the reality show "Family Business", and a scripted version with clueless employees sounds pretty funny.

What's weird is when I go to Playboy.com/playboytv I can't find a single mention of it anywhere. Maybe it'll be avail on itunes...not.

Canoga Park, my home town, is a community in the San Fernando Valley, home to much of this country's porn industry.

If The Office was about the porn industry, we would see Pam, Angela and Jan in a three-way every week.

I'll be in my bunk! :)

"...it would NOT be set in Scranton!"

Actually, Brian Kocis, the owner of gay porn studio Cobra who was murdered earlier this year, lived near Wilkes-Barre. I'm sure there are more small porn operations in unlikely places all around the country.

And yes, when I read this I immediately thought of "The Business" on IFC.

As someone in "the biz" I can tell you that it would be exactly the same - except you'd get tired of what you're selling a LOT quicker.
