Private Practice: In Which Sam Gets Taken For a Ride

Private Practice
(S01E07) "We are following the plan. Everything is right on schedule." - Pete

Three babies and three couples. This week's Private Practice episode was all about screaming women and babypalooza, flirting doctors, and making adjustments since the plan couldn't be followed to the letter. It may not have looked like a November Sweeps episode but at least the episode pushed the romantic storylines a bit further.

Naomi & Sam

I warned spoilers addicts last week: Naomi and Sam were going to hook up. It was inevitable that this would happen eventually, especially since it looked like the show wasn't in a hurry to introduce a love interest for either character. Even if Naomi didn't know much about the case Sam was working on, they bonded over it or at least over the fact Sam was hurt. They clearly still love each other and the question is if they would be better together or not. Since we have never seen them as a real couple, I would like the show to head that way. Have them try to patch things up, especially if it means that Naomi will be smiling more and more.

Violet & Cooper

They finally tried it! Well, sort of. Violet wanted Cooper to be her "friend with benefits" since he is known to hook up with women he meets online and never call the next day. But since Cooper never got the nerves to tell Violet how he really feels about her, things didn't go as planned. Cooper clearly accepted because he saw it as his way in for maybe something more with Violet, but since she didn't want more than unromantic sex, Cooper couldn't go on with it. He loves her and doesn't want to put their friendship on the line. I'm not giving up on them hooking up down the road. But I agree with Cooper that it needs to be done properly.

Addison & Pete

Private PracticeAfter locking lips last week, Addison and Pete are ready to push their relationship a little bit further and plan a date. Well, it was more a sex date than a romantic one considering how Addison was dressed. Not surprisingly, the date doesn't happen. I must admit that I didn't expect the reason to be Pete's conscience at first, but after seeing him bond with Susan by telling her he lost his wife, I started to think that it may create a wedge between he and Addison.

So far, the show made us think that Pete and his late wife didn't really see eye to eye, but after hearing him tell Violet that they were trying to have a child, it's clear they loved each other more than what we were led on to believe. Since the beginning of the season, we've seen Pete slowly start to cope with his wife's death. The other doctors know about it, and he clearly talked about it a bit more with Violet, but Pete is keeping private about it. I wonder if he'll tell Addison the real reason why he stood her up. Then, again since Kevin was introduced this week (more about him in a few lines), I doubt Pete will tell Addison the truth. At least, not right away.

Kevin

In case you didn't know (or didn't get it from the palpable chemistry between Kevin and Addison and him asking her out), David Sutcliffe (who played Christopher Hayden, Rory's father, on Gilmore Girls) is playing a potential love interest for Addison. It is unknown how many episodes he'll be in, but for sure he'll stick around for a little while. Knowing the type of roles Sutcliffe usually plays (and the fact that I always had sort of a TV crush for him), I wouldn't be against him being Addison's boyfriend for a long while. Since he is a cop, he could even be involved in some of the cases of the week.

Other tidbits of interest:
  • Somehow, I felt that the robbery/delivery scene was a bit rushed. No matter, I was glad to see Dr. Feelgood out on the field and do more hands-on medicine.
  • Dell looked like a kid in a candy store when he was given the task to monitor contractions. And he found the prize in the cereal box when he delivered the baby.
  • The cases of the week were interesting. However, three cases of screaming women in labor might have been too much. One baby case per episode should be the maximum they do.
  • Violet still needs a reality check. She is over Allan but she thought she could deal with boundaries. Huh? Naomi didn't buy it, I didn't either.
  • Naomi claims she is the only one who thinks in the practice, yet she kisses Sam and they sleep together. That was thinking? Yeah, I didn't think so either!
How long should Kevin stick around?
For a few episodes to make Pete jealous.250 (55.4%)
Forever.136 (30.2%)
Don't bring him back at all.26 (5.8%)
Who?15 (3.3%)
I don't care.24 (5.3%)

The scene between Violet and Cooper in the bedroom, was one of the most touching scenes. They were so cute together, and when he said "and you are beautiful" I thought the screen was going to melt, or me..LOL

Isabelle, I am with you, I have been in love with David Sutcliffe since season 1 of Gilmore Girls and would love to see him on Private Practice for a long time! I don't know about the rest of the viewers but I am not a huge Addison/Pete fan. I wanted Addison to accept that date with Kevin soo bad instead of Pete. I mean Naomi had a point when she said Addison wanted change, and is Pete really that change? Also, I love Cooper but he breaks my heart in his love for Violet! I actually am starting to like Private Practice more than Grey's Anatomy...imagine that!

Does anyone know the name of the song that played during the birth scene in the pool?

I wish David Sutcliffe would go away. I know that much of the turmoil on GG was not just Christopher's fault, but the sight of his smirking face brings back bad memories of season 7 and the way the show ended! I don't want to say him or Amy Sherman Palladino on my TV again anytime soon.

"I'm totally against Addison & Sam hooking up..." ORKMommy

I think you mean Pete. I haven't seen any indication or speculation that Addison has anything but platonic feelings for Sam. Notwithstanding the fact that she did cheat on her ex-hubby (Derek of GA...oh how quickly they forget), I don't see her doing that sort of thing to her buddy Naomi.

I'm totally against Addison & Sam hooking up...have been from the start. I'd really love to see her hook up with the cop! He was yummy!

The point of Naomi saying she is the one who "thinks" was her way of saying she wanted to give into her passion for Sam without consequence. It was a great juxtaposition that the "thinking" woman showed her emotions, while the others thought better of their romantic decisions.

CHRISTOPHER CHRISTOPHER CHRISTOPHER CHRISTOPHER
Character/plot development be damned, I miss seeing David Sutcliffe on Gilmore Girls. He and Addison should be together for as long as possible.
