Katie Couric: this tart's ready to go! - VIDEO

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 16th 2007 12:07PM

Katie CouricSimpsons star Harry Shearer has been exposing the behind the scenes faux pas and foibles of the national media for years. His video and audio of such things as Tom Brokaw's off-camera remarks are classic. Earlier this year he posted a video on his My Damn Channel channel of Dan Rather going on and on about whether or not to wear a trenchcoat. Now it's Katie's turn.

In the video after the jump, we see Katie prepping to go live during The CBS Evening News' recent trip to Nashville. We see her talking about her hair and whether or not to button the top button of her coat. Personally, I don't see what's so shocking or even "embarassing" about this video. All network reporters do this before the cameras roll - all of them, male and female. In fact, it makes me like Couric more, because she's self-deprecating (combing her hair: "This tart's ready to go!") and seems to be getting along with everyone on the crew.

On the UNLV question, apparently the candidates had spent ten minutes earlier in the debate talking about Yucca Mountain which basically covered the material the student was going to ask about. The producers asked her to ask another question but it was her decision to come up with "diamonds or pearls."

As for Katie, come on, she's not doing this stuff during the show this is before she's doing a stand up. She's loose and she's very human because she's with people she's very comfortable with. What do people expect her to be doing during this sort of set up - barking orders and asking for the latest updates of stories? It's different if she was joking and preening during the show, but watching her now compared to the way she was when she started at CBS is like night and day. She has grown into the role of anchor. She's not there yet but much better than she was.

When she's trying to be funny you say she a joke but when she asks tough questions(during the VA Tech shooting) people call her a cold hearted bitch.

Ask yourselves this, did you say the same things about Brian Williams when he hosted SNL or doing the "giant head" bits on The Daily Show?

Seems like a good-natured person who's passing the time until she has to appear on camera. Interesting how people have to read something more into it. What would you do? Channel Ted Baxter? Katie seems to be amazingly normal considering the amount of media attention she draws.

Sorry - it should read "had her question changed to "diamonds or pearls?" Regardless, I'm ashamed of our media, regardless of the channel.

The skeptic in me believes this to be an conscious performance to "humanize" the talking head

Somewhere there's footage of her asking whether or not it was worth the time doing a story on Bernie "I'm Rudy G's best friend and in bed with the mafia" Kerik' recent indictment. Sad, sad days for the news channels: the 60 Minutes fiasco with Pres. Sarkozy of France (he walked out when the 1st question out of the gate was about his impending divorce AFTER he stated he wouldn't talk about it in the media), the Early Show asking Kucinich's wife to show her tongue stud, the CNN inanity last night (a UNLV student had her question about the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site to asking Hilary "diamonds or pearls?" Seriously.

She's being funny because she forgot that she isn't on The Today Show anymore.

She was acting like she was high or drunk or something. Just weird.

Thankfully that is the most I have ever watched of her doing the "News" in 10 years.

Insecure Much ?!

Poor Katie, still insecure after all these years. And what's with all the joking and jocularity ? You're a highly paid network anchor-journalist, but instead of getting your game-face on and reviewing your story you're attempting stand-up comedy. WTF ?! And you even refer to yourself as a "tart". That's going to go over well with your colleagues. Wow, just wow.
