The Revenge of Larry King?

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 16th 2007 4:21PM

Marie OsmondWe've all seen the video clip of Larry King asking a surprised Marie Osmond about her 16 year-old son being in rehab, and now inside sources have told the New York Post that he did it on purpose, to get even with her for having the Osmond family reunion on Oprah's show instead of his show (I didn't realize the Osmond brood was causing such a booking war).

Osmond was on his CNN show the other night to talk about her father dying and Dancing with the Stars when King mentioned that her son Micahel was in rehab. Osmond turned to brother Donny and looked genuinely shocked that he brought it up. She even asks King "how do you know about that?" and King just says "I was told." They didn't battle on the air during the pre-taped show, and Marie has supposedly forgiven him, but Donny is said to still be angry.

Hell, I'm as cynical as they come, and I know that people do petty things, but I can't believe that King would do this, especially since the show was pre-taped and not a live "gotcha" moment.

I think it was very rude of Larry to ask Marie this question out of the blue but I understand that Larry's wife is or used to be friends of Marie and so maybe that is why Larry asked Marie that question (i.e., if Larry's wife is not on good terms with Marie anymore, maybe Larry asked Marie that question to upset her). However, whatever Larry's intent was, it was not good but I think it backfired on him because he, once again, came across as a huge heartless chump with air for a brain and, as far as Marie is concerned, I think more and more people will sympathize with her. Marie has worked very hard since she was a child and has faced more difficulties than most people face in a lifetime and people should know this, which is why she handled Larry’s question very well even though her father just died. I used to live in Utah and have met Marie and hope she wins Dancing With The Stars because she deserves it at this stage of her life and her family deserves being in the spotlight again. Marie and her family are about as good as any human being could ever get while, in my opinion, Larry King's wife (also originally from Utah) is about as tough, crude, and mean as one can get. They are apparently both getting their “comeuppances” from time to time and very public ones at that – and giving them to each other. For example, on at least one occasion, at Nate & Al’s Restaurant in Beverly Hills, Larry and his wife reputedly got in a big fight which ended up with them fighting out in the street and Larry calling her a whore (she certainly looks like one).

"13. So Larry King FINALLY asks a pointed, probing question and it's to the goddamn Osmonds?!?

He peddles softball questions to presidents, senators, world leaders, and business icons, but he wants real answers from these dancing, smiling fools?

Get real folks! Can't you smell a setup for more sympathy votes? She's there to win and they are pulling out all the stops. She should have been out long ago.

I'm glad Larry asked that question. The look on her face when he asked about her son was priceless. I am so sick of the teethy Osmonds since Marie has been on DWTS, including those brothers in the audience. They have always been copy-cats from the beginning, patterning themselves after the Jackson Fives. I think if I have to see and hear Marie's donkey laugh one more time I'm going to get sick. She should have been the one let go tonight on DWTS, she's too chunky and has no talent at all, except for 'fainting spells.' ~Blu~

Larry King should be ashamed of himself. Donny and Marie are adults and can speak for themselves but why is he embarrassing her son? Also, I agree with the person who said he is a terrible interviewer. Remember the recent interview with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr where he called Ringo "George"?

I think Larry King was right to ask about her son, Marie and Donnie have made sure they keep TV coverage constant using the loss of her father and her family problems to reel in the sympathy vote so she can win Dancing with the stars. Real heartache and loss is done privately and with your loved ones not make a public spectacle of it. Sometimes there are wolves in sheep clothing who would do anything for fame, sadly I think Donnie and Marie are doing this. I use to really admire them for there family values and kindness but they have both proven to be sympathy grabbers. They should remember that Family comes before Fame.

The worst part is that Larry is married to one of Marie Osmond's best friends. Marie probably told Shawn what was happening, Shawn shared it with Larry and Larry used it to ambush Marie. Definitely not something a good friend would do.
