What Keith is thankful for - VIDEO
Damages getting uber-renewed
As the first season of Damages ticked down toward its finale, I wasn't the only one afraid that F/X was being quiet about the show's renewal status. It wasn't until recently that we were blessed with the news of not only one new season, but two! Many of us fans have already gone into speculating what the major plot will be for the second season, but to now wrap our minds around a third ... wow.
The Shield having all remaining episodes in the can
The WGA strike is obviously going to be a huge downer for TV watchers everywhere, if it hasn't been already. Some shows will take months to reappear, possibly if at all! Thankfully one of my beloved shows, The Shield, apparently won't be affected by the strike, as it has its final season all wrapped up for us like a fat present under the tree (even if it does air in the spring).
My DVR's eSATA port and 500GB drives
For you non-techie types out there, this simply means I can attach an external hard drive to my cable-provided DVR. A big drive. And boy, do I need it. My DVR has dual-tuners and records HD content, so it can fill up fast. If not for that precious eSATA port, I'd be stuck with my DVR's measly 250GB drive. 750GB FTW!
YouTube's archive of Pink Panther and The Mighty Heroes
While we restrict my three-year-old son's TV watching to something like a half-hour a day, if that (*gasp!* Shock and horror!), my frequent references to Pink Panther (the insulation cat) and The Mighty Heroes had him too curious for words. I had to find a way to show him what I was talking about without resorting to my horrible drawing skills. YouTube to the rescue! Dear lord, they have more of these six-minute cartoons there than I would have ever hoped. Up, up and away! Yyyyyeah Hooo! Gung Ho!
Getting to see the Battlestar Galactica set
I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to see the sets and actors for what's been one of the best sci-fi shows I've watched on television. The fact that the sets may likely be torn down once filming is wrapped for the final season makes it an even more precious memory. I'm not sure any other set visit could top being able to sit in the chairs in the CIC and walk around the flight deck. Total geek fest.
Getting to see episodes early
When we started getting screeners for new and returning shows to the TV Squad offices, at first there was excitement, then guilt, then overwhelming excitement again. I'm incredibly thankful to be able to see some of my favorite shows early. I'm also thankful that the networks don't stop sending them because others want to ruin things by posting them on the 'net without permission.
