Melinda Clarke: In the Limelight

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Dec 3rd 2007 12:03PM
Melinda ClarkeMelinda Clarke is one of the best vixens on TV. Last Tuesday, she appeared on The CW's Reaper as the Devil's mistress. This guest starring role had a few of the TV Squad bloggers wonder what her age is (she's 38 in case you were wondering) since she looked so good and young that she could have passed for Sam's girlfriend on the show. TV Squadder Joel even said "She would have topped my 'hot over 40' list if she were just a skosh older." That got me thinking that maybe it was time to put Melinda Clarke in the limelight and let everyone know who she is and of the dominatrix roles she played!

Melinda Patrice Clarke, daughter of a ballet dancer and actor John Clarke, was born on April 24, 1969 in Dana Point, California. She is sometimes credited as Mindy Clarke.

Personally, I got to know Clarke when she appeared as Julie Cooper on FOX's The O.C. But you may remember her from in the following TV series in which she appeared in more than one episode: Days of our Lives, Nash Bridges, Enterprise, The District, Entourage, Xena: Warrior Princess and much more! She also appeared in a few episodes for CSI as Lady Heather, a dominatrix who had a college-aged daughter and was a sort of love interest for... Grissom! Melinda Clarke appeared in one episode of the following hit (or canceled-to-soon) series: Seinfeld, Sliders, The Pretender, Charmed, Everwood, Tremors, and Firefly.

The actress also played in movies such as Return of the Living Dead III, Return to Two Moon Junction, Spawn, and Dynamite. The actress voiced characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Mission Impossible - Operation Surma, and The Animatrix.

She won a "Best Actress" award at the Sitges Festival for her work in La Lengua asesina and was nominated for the "Best Young Actress in a Daytime Drama" award at the Young Artist Awards for her role on Days of our Lives.

She married Ernie Mirich in June 1997 and they have a daughter, Kathryn Grace. The family resides in Beverly Hills, California. Two mass-marketed action figures were made of her: one of her role as Jessica Priest in Spawn and a second one for her role as Velasca in Xena: Warrior Princess. She is also a trained soprano.

She is and forever will be, to me, Velasca the God of Chaos. Rowr what a hot deity!

It was such a letdown that they never brought her back in later seasons on the show (X:WP).

Melinda as Lady Heather was awesome! What a character of intriguing depth. She was shown both in control and at her most vulnerable. Her implied relationship with Grissom was fascinating. Now that CSI has sent Jorja Fox packing, I'd love for them to reopen the door for Grissom and Lady Heather to get together again.

Isabelle, I have a terrible memory - wish I could recall that character on Days. I looked up her web sites but only could see she was on in the late 60's and maybe the 70's (can't remember lol). Thanks for the quick response. I have always enjoyed her. She was great as Julie!

Clarke was wonderful as Lady Heather until they made her almost a caricature in their plans for Jorja Fox. Someone dead and cremated could see the chemistry between Clarke and Petersen whereas Petersen and Fox have the chemistry of distilled water.
