"Best of" SNL to air in primetime in December

Saturday Night LiveNBC announced today that 90-minute "Best of" specials of Saturday Night Live will air throughout December. These special episodes, featuring sketches with Will Ferrell and Chris Farley to name just two, will air in primetime Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

The first "Best of," to air on December 8, will be devoted to Will Ferrell's best work on the show. This episode will feature sketches of Craig the Spartan Spirit cheerleader, singing middle school teacher Marty Culp, along with Ferrell's portrayal of Alex Trebek on Celebrity Jeopardy and much more.

The following week's episode will center around Chris Farley. So expect characters like Matt Foley, the Chicago Bears SuperFan and the Chippendale Dancer to turn up.

On December 22, the special will feature some of the best and most popular sketches from 2006-2007 such as "Rep. Nancy Pelosi's address to the nation, host Jake Gyllenhaal's Dreamgirls drag monologue, and SuperBowl MVP Peyton Manning being coached by a dancing Will Forte," as mentioned in the press release. This "Best of" will also include the famous SNL Digital Shorts.

Finally, the last "Best of" episode, airing on December 29, will be entirely devoted to commercial parodies, from the "Bass-O-Matic" to "Swiffer Sleepers."

Uhh, anything in the works featuring shows from the pre-Ferrell years? You know, when they had guys on there named Belushi (John, not his abomination of a brother), Aykroyd, Morris, Radner, Murray, Murphy, and hosts/musical guests like Pryor, Carlin, Waits, Idle, Cocker, Martin, Martin, and Martin.

Yes, this was another "S.N.L. used to be a lot better back in the day" post. The truth is a wonderful thing, it rarely changes. :)
