Holy crap: Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant

by Anna Johns, posted Dec 19th 2007 8:19AM
jamie lynn spearsHow do you compete when your older sister is Britney Spears? Little Jamie Lynn, a mere 16 years old, has topped her sister's head-shaving and child services investigation antics with this bombshell: SHE'S PREGNANT.

Jamie Lynn is the star of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101, a show that I have never seen but assume is for the pre-teen set. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that show is probably canceled. Nickelodeon's official statement is in support of Jamie Lynn and "her decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation."

The baby daddy is Jamie Lynn's boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. She met him at church.

Somebody needs go give grandma Lynn Spears a drink. Or a parenting class.

Hey, you can take the white trash out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the white trash! Just goes to show you that money doesn't change lives, here we have a super rich family and they are so screwed up (similar to the Hiltons), both of the Spears parents should have been spayed and neutered at age 14 and we would not have this problem! I can see that Nick is no longer a channel that will be watched in our house until Zoey 101 is off the air completely. As a mom, I don't want to have my 11 & 13 year old daughters having this trashy twit as a role model.

to Eddie,
Just a little hint here, but those of us in the real south take offense to your comments. We don't all act like hillbillies ya know. Just because we speak different doesn't ake us trashy, and by the way the saying is..
"You can take the hoe out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the hoe."

(not directed at anyone in particular)

Good night Ya'll!!!

being sixteen, i understand that sex has become an everyday part of the lives of many american teenagers. however, i am surprised and ashamed that this girl would not seek some form of contraception...especially considering her place as a role model for millions of elementary-age and preteen girls in the united states and elsewhere. its not like she can't afford birth control. i applaud the mother for allowing her daughter, who happens to be BELOW the age of consent to live with a legal adult three years older than her child. without bothering to make sure shes having safe sex of course, and then proceeding to sell the photo rights of the baby for one million dollars. talk about marketing your kids. regardless of age, we are people, not investments.

It's a big joke because they've made themselves clowns, all you who think these are real people.

By selling her daughter to the sex trade that is pop music and culture, Lynne Spears made a deal with the devil and now she's paying for it. It's why Britney is a nut job and little whatsherface is a total screwup. But, they have money! And fame! They are a joke and I've been making fun of their entire family since I saw the first Britney music video.

Which leads me to the best statement EVER to describe this entire situation:

You can take the family out of the South...
But you can't take the South out of the family.

It would not be such a big deal if all of you and more importantly the media were not making it such a big deal... This is the thing about americans... they scandalize themselves, themselves. The girl is 16 and she is pregnant... now what? She is healthy, she has the money to raise the kid... Why wait until we are 40 to have kids or even have our eggs frozen "for later"...? She is not the first person to have sex at 16 years old... Not the last... I am not a specialist in the history of reproduction but would guess that not that long ago, people were having children much younger than they are now. There are more important and bigger problems in the world than a cute, healthy young woman procreating... Jamie Lynn or not, kids should get direction from their parents on how to direct their lives... It is not about putting the others down but rather to elevate ourselves to the level we wish to be; nothing to do with the neighbor or the girl on television. Some people are so connected to television they are forgetting to live their own lives.

This is really a lose/lose situation for Jamie Lynn. If she had chose adoption, people would have ragged on her for shrugging responsibility. If she had chosen to terminate, and people found out about it, she'd have been called a baby killer. She chose to "keep it", so she's a bad role model for getting pregnant and chosing to be a teen parent. Add to all of that that her big sister, who's shadow she can never escape, and she's got nothing going for her.

As far as contraception, has she released a statement about not having used any, or is everyone just assuming? Pregnancy happens even among the most careful couples.

As far as statutory rape goes, the "age of consent" is 17 in LA. This heans that even if he had been 17, it still would have technically been statutory rape. What would the purpose of locking him up really be? You think he'll stop making love to his long time girlfriend? How about the kid? Hod do you explain to a 1 year old that his/her daddy isn't at his/her birthday party because he's 3 years older than mommy? It's just an excuse to exert power over a situation when the supposed adults feel powerless.

If people put even half the effort into *helping* couples in situations like this rather than name-calling and finger-pointing, it wouldn't have to so devastating. We all agree that 16 is VERY young to be having a baby, but it's done now, and the baby is certainly not at fault.

If people really want to do something about teen pregnancy, start with pregnant teens. Teach them how to prevent a future unplanned pregnancy, and teach them how to raise their children to make better decisions than they did. Of course, it's easier to sit up on a high horse and name call than try to help. THAT is what's truely sad about our society....

I think it is amazing how many people on this site are the first to cast stones...I guess that means that there are that many perfect people in this world who never find life to throw you curves. By all means, this young girl should not have been allowed to live with her adult boyfriend; however, what's done is done. I don't think anyone is disputing that her parents have been making some poor decisions, but how dare anyone assume that she will ruin this baby simply because she is 16. Character is built through the obstacles you overcame not the obstacles you managed to avoid.

Amen Kari! My mother was 17 when I was born and even though she admits to making mistakes, I turned out just fine. I had my daughter at 32 and even I make mistakes. Just because she's 16 does not mean her child will be a mess!

I just wonder...would we be making this huge issue if it were Miley Cyrus? Or one of the Jonas Brothers? Or how about one of the boys from Drake & Josh? What if it were Ashley Tisdale (who is in her early 20's). She plays a high school girl on "The Suite Life" which is geared toward pre-teens. I think the only reason this is a big deal is because she's Britney's sister!
