Rachael Ray goes on vacation ... and airs it on Food Network

by Richard Keller, posted Dec 20th 2007 3:21PM

Rachael Ray ain't going nowhere, especially after signing a two-year contract for Food Network.Fans of Rachael Ray rejoice! Haters of Rachael Ray can continue to seethe a bit more.

The enormously chipper Ray, who is all over television and the print media these days, has just signed on for another two years at Food Network. In addition to her very popular 30 Minute Meals program (60 episodes per year, as opposed to a previous 80 per year) Ray will host a new program titled Rachael's Vacation, which will have Rachael traveling around the world showing viewers her favorite sites, restaurants, and markets. Frankly, this seems like a combination of $40 a Day and Rachael's Tasty Travels, just without the budget.

Look, I may get called a hack and have an image of myself burned at the stake, but I say 'Good for you!' to Rachael. I mean, how many of you wouldn't want to get paid a hefty sum of money to do stuff that you love to do? I'm not ashamed to say that I would certainly sign up for that type of proposal at the drop of a hat.

And, for those of you who just despise Ray, no matter what happens ... well, she eventually has to burn out sometime. Just have a bit of patience.

Don't forget that Emeril is a VERY accomplished long-time professional chef who started in New Orlean's finest restaurants and is such a cut above the other Food Network (FN) chefs that he will most likely be better suited now for Fine Living Network (FLN). The FN has become more for the home cooks it seems and the "regular Joes and Joanns" have had more appeal to audiences lately than Emeril's high level recipes. Em and Rachael are both fine by me and it appears time for Emeril to now be in a different forum for his level of expertise. Congrats!

No matter how popular a Food Network presenter becomes, he/she needs to be corrected when the name of an ingredient is mispronounced. My pet peeve is "pap-uh-reeka' as spoken by Paula and Emeril. I have yet to hear either of them correctly say it with only 3 syllables. Why wasn't that corrected during taping of the show?

I think she's just a relentless self-promoter and it's just typical of our society. If she can make money on it, she'll do it. another product of an overwhelming PR machine and some TV network execs who think she's soooo cute. Give me Tony Bourdain any day!! Didn't he used to work there?????? Guess he wasn't cute enough and he didn't have a catch phrase they could use for promoting salad dressings and spice mixes (and almost anything else!). I wish that somene on that network would actually let you know what measurements they're working with when they cook!

Looks like Tony is back, at least on Tuesdays in what are probably reruns of A Cook's Tour. They also did A Cook's Tour marathon either on Christmas or New Years, not sure which. I must say I'm kind of surprised, given all the negative things he has had to say about Food TV and their various "personalities". I like his show, but it reminds of of Fear Factor, some of the things he will eat :) As far as Rachal goes, I can take her or leave her. I've made some of her 30 minute meals, or parts of them and the ones I've made are pretty good. She's not a chef, of course, but I think she mainly appeals to the novice cook who needs some pointers in the kitchen and how to make a decent meal quickly. I do enjoy her $40 a Day and Tasty Travels because she's been to some of the same places I've been, and it's nice to have an idea of different places to eat.

I Like her & she is bubbly. But she continues to rub her nose, play with her hair, push it back off her face,it is gross to me, she is handling food.
The way she talks over her guests is so very
rude, i have seen some of her guests give a
look of dismay. Yesterday was one of her worst days. She talked ove ( Tim Daly ) he
was offended, look at the show see his face
of shock, on 01/05/08

I am quickly approaching Rachael "TV overload"...Dunkin Donuts and nearly every other endorsement imaginable. Do the viewers a favor...ease off a bit.

Rachael Ray is amazing! She makes food people not only want to actually eat, but food NORMAL people can actually cook and obtain. She makes things you don't have to go to "special stores" to prepare for and make. Her creativity is incredible and she is successful because of it.

True, she may have a lot of exposure on Food Network, but all of the other exposure comes from the fact that she DESERVES it. She has a wonderful, cheery, bubbly personality and THAT is one of the main reasons idiots decide to hate her.

Personally, I say: GO RACHAEL!!!
(even the author agrees with me)

At least she does have talent to go with her "OVEREXPOSURE" unlike most people in the music biz right now. If you don't like her, don't watch.

Why all the Rachel haters??? She has made it doing something she loves -- cooking. Can she help it about her husband??? Are you jealous? Someone must like her because she makes millions.

As for Emeril -- he never cooked anything I'd want to cook at home. His food just never looked real or appealing.

Thank-you Foodnetwork.....I couldn't stand another
" paperika " or " Do you see that ? " ....Emeril....you seem to forget that we are educated adults, not 5 years old.....I love the way Alton has a unique way of using peculiar things inventively, he is enlightening and fun to watch.....plus, unlike Emeril, he seems to understand that we can actually understand explanations the first time....we don't need to have them repeated ad nauseam,as Emeril thinks. He's a good person, but so annoying.

Rachael Ray is overexposed. I'm tired of her --- I hate having life size cardboard cutouts of Ms. Ray leer at me in grocery stores. She is second only to Paula Deen, who should renew the "it's-shake-and-bake-and-I-helped" commercials with her drawl, y'all.

I actually stopped watching Rachael Ray a long time ago...Was it the streaked, lion's mane "do", "Mommy" (who probably lives off Rachael's success), husband John (whom she also supports, I'd guess), the word "sammie",the fact that she skipped school a lot while in high school, the fabled pit bulls, or her confession that she couldn't have a child because she is too busy? Anyway, she depresses me...No more Rachael!
