Dr. Phil visits Britney. World breathes sigh of relief.

Dr. Phil wants to help BritneyIt looks like television's Dr. Phil is making the fate of the Spears family his personal crusade. Last month he was letting reporters know that Lynne Spears, mother to Britney and the 16-year-old, newly pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears, was a great mother and doing all she could during this time of woe for the family. On Saturday he upped the ante by visiting Britney at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Spears was admitted after a three-hour standoff with her ex-husband concerning custody of their children.

Dr. Phil visited Britney just as she was packing to leave the hospital and spoke with her for about an hour. In an exclusive statement to Entertainment Tonight he said that the meeting left him convinced "more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention." He added that he was very concerned for her. It's being reported that Phil will be recording an episode of his syndicated show this week that will focus on Britney and what he thinks needs to be done to put her back on the right track.

I may be extremely cynical, but it seems like this is all being done to drive up ratings for his show and put Dr. Phil back into the public spotlight. Why isn't he making the show more generic and focusing on some of the serious conditions that can affect women of Britney's age. He just seems to be coaxing the Britney fire to burn a bit more while all of us, known as the weary public, want to do is have Britney quietly disappear into nothingness.

Oh please. If this hack was seriously concerned (and seriously in a position to treat her - which he is NOT) then he would be doing all of this behind closed doors and NOT for his television show.

I was never a fan of Dr. Phil, but this is as disgusting as some of her behaviors.

I am wondering if Britney isn't suffering from Postpartum Psychosis. No matter what the problem is, people should stop bashing her, making fun of her and start hoping she can get back on track for herself and her boys.

Thank you Jenny. Finally someone stated what should have been obvious. She has had two children back to back, so I think its fairly reasonable to assume that her psychological decline could be related to that. I don't understand what is taking so long to get that girl some help.

O.K. I'm not one to usually comment on poor Britney but come on people who in this entire world doesn't know that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. And just how long did it take for this Einstein to figure this one out. I'm no Einstein and I figured that out long before she shaved her head.

Wake up people and leave her alone, let her get help and stop paying any type of attention to her at all. Then yes maybe she will go away and that is what she really needs.

And that is all I have to say on that.

Amen Brother! I admit that I can't help read all of the stuff about Britney, but come on media...give the poor woman a break. There are tons of people out there who are having the same types of issues Britney is and we're not obsessed with them! Is anybody thinking of those poor children? What happens in 10 or 12 years when they start seeing all of this crap about their mother? I know that it's not the media's responsibility to shelter those kids from their mother, but do we as a country have the right to make her look worse for them? Leave her alone and let's get on with our own lives!

Gimme a break!!! Britney doesn't need Dr. Swill, she needs real professional help that doesn't involve a nationally syndicated TV show. Memo to Britney: Get to rehab. Quit using mind and mood altering chemicals. Sort your life out before you lose your kids permanently.

oh god.. him and his crusades.. he's been publicly saying that she needs help for awhile now, and lets face it.. he's needing publicity bc his ratings are down. he is so full of himself and thinks that lynn spears is in the right.. cmon. get over yourself dr. phil

Plenty of other sites are reporting that Phil's visit was completely unwelcome by Brit and that the "visit" lasted well under an hour. That most of the statement released by Phil's people is bunk.
