Why is K.I.T.T. now a Mustang?

K.I.T.T.

I know, you woke up in the middle of the night last night in a cold sweat and wondered, why is the new Knight Rider car a Mustang?

Davis Bartis, who is the executive producer on the new NBC remake of the 80s show, says that there is no Trans Am available like the original, so they went with the Ford Mustang, which he thinks is "the coolest car out there." So now, not only will K.I.T.T. have a new voice (Arrested Development's Will Arnett, taking over for William Daniels), the car itself will be completely new.

They couldn't find a Trans Am like the one used in the original? Why not build one, or get one of the old cars that seem to pop up on eBay every other month?

I think they should have gone with a completely radical choice. Why not a 1975 Dodge Dart? My brother owned one of those.

Why not the new forthcoming 2009 CAMARO that stole the Detroit auto show the past two years--the REAL
attention getter and star of the show. It's an AWESOME
car and a Mustang killer as well as a much better design-
and always has been! The Mustang may have predated
it 'way back when and has done so once again but the
BEST appeared last1

Signed, a one CAMARO and two OLDSMOBILE owner!

I can't believe they used a Turd, I mean Ford for Kitt. I am definitely not watching that show. If it's not a GM vehicle, then it's not Night rider!

Sorry folks, but Ford is just not that impressive.

The original KITT car is located at the Volo Auto Musuem in Volo Ill. If you like older cars you will love this place.
Can even buy a car from there and they also give you an apprasal on your car. I know that they have a website, just cant remeber it off hand.

K.I.T.T. is now a Mustang because a Mustang would make an oil puddle of a Trans Am....

I grew up with this as my favorite show of all time. I really fear they are going to ruin it for me. GM really missed the boat on this one, no wonder they're getting there asses handed to them by pretty much anybody else that makes a car in the whole world. If your gonna bring the Camero back bring the Trans Am back too and "Oh damn there gonna make this show where this car is the most rediculously awesome car in the world, and it use to be our car, why would we want that kind of advertising?" IDIOTS. I wanted to puke when I saw KITT was going to be a Mustang. I don't care if it is a Shelby. And don't make it seem like 540 horsepower is big deal. Are you know gonna tell me it is supposed to be better than the old KITT i'm assuming. 80's KITT could go over 300mph i don't know what the horses where but i can bet they had to be well over 500, the new Vette ZR1 has 600horsepower. Don't tell me what the Shelby's actual hrspwr is, make something rediculous up, this is fiction remember tell me KITT has 2000 horsepower, don't use the freagin info on the actual car in real life. Do think Hoff's old KITT really went 300 mph? But they let u think it did. They are going to royally screw this up. DAMN YOU NBC DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!

I would have gone with a Hyundai Elantra myself. We otusource everything else; why wouldn't we outsource our talking cars?

I know that this is a very old thread but, Sam, you may have gotten your wish. Here's your talking car (from Hyundai's 2011 Elantra campaign no less): http://www.youtube.com/user/conspiracynut100#p/u/5/R2fJ3JoPzAY
