Nashville Star coming to NBC

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 18th 2008 8:27AM

Nashville StarA lot of viewers who watch reality shows - even the music competition reality shows like American Idol - might not be aware that there's another long-running singing competition show on TV. It's called Nashville Star, and it's coming to NBC.

The show usually airs on one of NBC's other properties, USA Network, but in this new strike television landscape many shows are coming over to the big networks. The show will be paired with American Gladiators, as part of their "All-American Summer."

Believe it or not, this show is actually in its fifth season, so it has a lot of fans out there. Now we'll see if that viewership increases when it comes over to the Peacock. No new host(s) has been chosen yet.

ohhhh & our favorite winner was, no doubt, Chris Young!!! Our favorite non winner Miranda Lambert!! These kids have talent. They sing, they write, they play their own instruments. It is sooo much beter than Idol(sorry idol fans)

All-American Summer? The demographic makeup of this show is much more limited than that of American Idol. I don't feel American enough.

I try every season to watch this, but seriously. All of these people are struggling to sound country when they sing. Why should any of them be given recording contracts when they will only sound like everything else on country radio right now? You know I'm right. We don't need any more Chesney's and Mcgraws.

Sounds like good news for me and NBC. I always forget that it is on because it is usually on USA; and I still seem to forget that the cable networks air new stuff during primetime as well...I don't watch anything on there even if I remember except Nashville Star and The Dead Zone (but it is canceled now). I think that NBC made a good move for those that don't look at the cable networks as much as local.
