FOX to have a Super Sunday, in more ways than one

Super Bowl logoFOX is hoping you like a little politics with your football coverage.

On Super Bowl Sunday (that's this Sunday), FOX News anchor Shep Smith will host a two hour political show on FOX from 10am to noon. The show will not only have news about the election (Super Tuesday is next week), but they'll also feature a story on what it takes to put the Super Bowl together and will include comments from the candidates and other politicians about the game and politics in general.

If that's not FOX-centric enough for you, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will host a special Super Bowl red carpet show (a red carpet show for a football game...mother of God), Idol winner Jordin Sparks will sing the National Anthem before the game, and Idol judge Paula Abdul will come out during halftime and mumble sing her new single. And don't forget FOX's pre-game show, which will last approximately 44 hours.

Of course, CNN has been doing their "Ballot Bowl" for weeks, putting their election coverage under a cute bowl season title, but it's not as intertwined as FOX's coverage is going to be.

I thought Tom Petty was doing halftime, not Paula Abdul. And a red carpet is a dumb idea, making people dress up for the Superbowl?!?! Hmm I'm going to a football game, better put on the Armani. Only Fox can come up with crap like this. I'm watching the game and House, thats it.

Well I couldn't give a rat's ass about Fox News, as they suck to the exact same degree as all the other network news organizations. Not one of them is in any way objective. For that and many other reasons, I think people who use the phrase "Faux News" are about as intelligent as a box of air. A box of old air.

That having been said, this is why I TiVo games. I wait an hour, I fast-forward to the exact moment of kickoff, skip the halftime report and finish up about caught up to the live broadcast around the middle of the 4th quarter. I see maybe 4 or five commercials...although for the Superbowl, I will intentionally watch them in case any of them don't suck.

Pregame for me is reading websites and columnists I trust about the specific details I am interested in. I don't need a talking head to tell me about Dante Stallworth's grandmother's cake recipe, or how Eli Manning once read a book to a child dying of cancer, or that the pats are going to utterly destroy the Giants. ;)

I am extremely interested in politics and football. I am not, however, interested in Faux New's blatant conservative spin on politics. So I will be doing anything and everything else to do other than watch Faux news and their ilk like Bill O'Reilly.

Cheers for the heads-up that the superbowl is this weekend. I'd never have known and would have missed it. It might not be proper football (aka soccer ;-) but it's fun to watch the big game. You'd probably find it hard to believe, but it doesn't get a mention over here in Europe and you can easily not even know it happened.
