Marlee Matlin may go Dancing With the Stars

Marlee MatlinAccording to Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Insider blog, deaf actress and Oscar winner Marlee Matlin may be appearing on the next edition of ABC's Dancing With the Stars.

As EW mentions, having Matlin guest star on the dancing competition would not be surprising since the series has been trying to "defy casting expectations and prejudices." DWTS fans will recall that Heather Mills, who wears a prosthetic leg, appeared in the fourth season of the show.

Since the network is not ready to confirm the cast of the upcoming season of the show, it is impossible to know for sure if Matlin will indeed be on the show. The magazine contacted Marlee Matlin's publicist but the latter referred them to ABC.

ABC should reveal who will be donning dance shoes for the sixth installment of the series sometime this month since the show is set to premiere on March 17. I personally hope that the actress is part of the cast as she is a lovable and true person. I would definitely root for her.

In the meantime, you can catch Marlee Matlin as Jodi Lerner on The L Word every Sunday on Showtime.

I have 2 deaf cousins and they can dance. So I'm sure if they can do it so can Marlee.

The deaf do have whole bodies like the hearies, including legs & arms - the only thing missing is their hearing.

I agree with you. I also think the people that think she can't do it have no faith in the hearing impaired. It would probably be the same if they had a blind person on there. People would probably be all like they can't see so they can't dance. The should get a blind person like Andrea Boticheli or Stevie Wonder on there to prove that even the visually and hearing impaired are no different then everyone else, they're just missing sight or the ability to hear.

Who said the deaf cannot dance??? People who thought that the deaf cannot dance are ignorant (Heather Mills danced well in spite of her prosthetic leg) The deaf can dance as good as the hearies - in fact, I did most kind of dancing while growing up - even taught square dancing, folk dancing, etc. to hearing impaired children at the elementary division for several years at the school for the deaf - there was a lovely deaf lady - Lisa Fishbein who was one of the cheerleaders for the Miami Dolphins for 2 years recently and most people did not know that she was deaf. Deaf people don't look any different than hearing people. Marlee Matlin will do well!

As a hearing person, I have been involved in the Deaf community for about 11 yrs. I have been to countless Deaf and HOH, Hard of Hearing, functions including the AADB held in Tulsa Okla in 1996. The closing night was a Dinner Dance. I whitnessed first hand the abillities of Deaf dancers. and know quite well that Deaf people CAN DANCE.

I am a Deaf person who is actively involved with the Deaf Community.
I think that Marlee isn't the best representative for those involved with the Deaf Community, but good luck to Marlee if she decides to do DWTS.

p.s. hopefully Shoshannah Stern would be the next Deaf person on the show....

My mom is deaf and she could always out dance me! She is an awesome dancer. The awareness of everything going on around a deaf person is alot more that what a hearing person sees.

As a Deaf person myself, I grew up dancing ballet, jazz, hip hop and did cheerleading in high school. It was not a problem for me at all. To learn the routines, I had the teacher demonstrate the moves with me once or twice with the speakers on the floor and I did the beat counting in my head. After two rehearsals with the teacher, I could dance with my class and in the performances.
So many times people have been so shocked to learn that I can't hear.
It really is not very hard for a Deaf person to dance. Sure it takes an extra few hours or an extra day but, no problems there =)
Marlee will do amazing!
