With strike over, ABC decides to renew nine shows for 2008-09

by Joel Keller, posted Feb 11th 2008 5:42PM
ABC logoABC decided to use the expected end of the writers' strike to announce the renewal of nine shows for the 2008-09 season. The list of returning series are mostly those you'd expect to see: Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, and Lost are the veteran shows on the list, joined by rookie shows Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who?, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money. Unchanged is the speculation that most of the newer shows won't have a spring return, as ABC will hold them for a more publicized fall re-launch.

The only show on the above list that I'm surprised got such an early commitment to a second season was Dirty Sexy Money. The other shows got either decent ratings or enough buzz to keep them on the air post-strike, but DSM was flying under the radar for most of the time it was on. I guess the demographics were strong enough for ABC to give the show another shot. Still up in the air, by the way, is the fate of the less-well-received shows on the ABC schedule. So, for the two of you who are missing the hell out of Cavemen, you'll just have to wait.

Okay I think that ABC made pretty good choices... but I think that DSM should have been cancled before Cashmere Mofia. I MISS CASHMERE MOFiA! WHAAA!! BRING IT BACK! But thanks for not canning pushing daisies!

My fiance and I really enjoy the show "DSM" so much that every wednesday, we make sure that we are home just in time for the show. It isn't just the actors that we like but also the storyline. This show has lots of potential and can go far. It is one weird family that happens to be rich. This show has to come back or else my fiance and I won't have no cuddleing time together in front of the T.V on Wednesday nights. Please bring back my "Darlings":-(

Boston Legal is such a smart and entertaining show. It's a blast to watch, it always makes me laugh. It also makes you think. You can't always have the dumb-ass shows on ABC, you need some "thinking" too. ABC, please renew Boston Legal....

Sorry guys i'm French, so don't judge my english !

I really hope that Men In Trees will do good in its new time slote on wednesdays. But when you look at the ratings of Cashmere Mafia, it 's difficult to be hopeful !
Why didn't ABC leave Men In Trees in its time slot just after Grey's Anatomy ???

Really happy for Pushing Daisies and Samantha Who? ! Even if I don't like it, I don' understand why Women's Murder Club could be cancel ! ABC's crazy sometimes. Maybe it because the viewers of this series, as well as Boston Legal, are too old.

Hope Eli Stone will do better the next few weeks, in order to have a second season.

I'm beginning to hope Eli Stone gets picked up. It seems to fit into the Pushing Daisies/Boston Legal oddness.
