NBC cleans house at Last Call with Carson Daly

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 15th 2008 1:35PM

Carson DalyFirst Carson Daly got a lot of heat (and hecklers) for going back to work while the Writers Guild of America strike was still going on. And now NBC has rewarded his loyalty by firing nine Last Call with Carson Daly employees, including three of those writers.

Nikki Finke reports that NBC made the decision to fire the employees, not Daly himself, and that the strike had nothing to do with the moves, it was going to happen anyway. This is funny (funny as in strange, not ha-ha) because during the strike, NBC made Daly go back to work, threatening to cancel his show if he didn't. He went back to work and felt the wrath of writers, some who heckled him during his show (deservedly so, especially since he tried to get outside joke writers during the strike), and just a few days after the strike is settled, NBC does this.

I'm not even sure why this show is still on the air. I mean, it has really lame guests most nights, it's on really late, and now NBC gets rid of a large chunk of the show's staff. Maybe this is a way of them letting Daly know they want a change in that time slot.

OR they could just change Carson's show back to the way it was when he first started and just have a guest on and talk minus all the monologue crap and a band. On Fridays give it an hour and have two guests and a band. That's really when I used to make an effort to watch the show.

Re-airing the night's Tonight Show and Late Night would be better than Carson and give something nearly watchable for the people like myself who are awake. All the poker shows and especially Poker After Dark have turned me to the radio again. Get off my lawn.

Cancel his show and move up Poker After Dark to 1:35. Then when Conan moves from 12:37 to 11:35 in 2009, move Poker After Dark to 12:35.

Don't like Daly but I'm glad he didn't bend over for the whiny writers.

At what point does it become more profitable to replace him with an infomercial?
