Pushing Oscars - Kristin Chenoweth to sing at Academy Awards

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 15th 2008 4:41PM
Kristin ChenowethThe buzz about ABC's Oscar broadcast is starting in earnest, and yesterday it was announced that Kristin Chenoweth, the adorable Olive Snook on Pushing Daisies, has been tapped to sing one of the Academy Award nominated songs, "That's How You Know" from the film Enchanted, according to the Baltimore Sun. Kristin will be joined by Marlon Saunders, who played the Central Park Calypso singer in the movie. By the by, Enchanted's star, Amy Adams, will also be singing on the show. She's doing, "Happy Working Song," another nominated song from the Disney hit. FYI, that's the sing-along tune she did in the film with cockroaches, rats and other happy vermin. You can just imagine Walt Disney spinning in his grave, can't you?

Anyway, aside from being a scene-stealer on Pushing Daisies, Kristin is an award winning Broadway star, having won the Tony in 1999 for her role as Sally in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She was also nominated for Wicked, in which she played Glinda, the Good Witch, opposite Idina Menzel, who played the Wicked Witch of the West -- and won the Tony! Then Idina costarred with Amy Adams in Enchanted. Everything's connected in a weird way, isn't it?

Well, you can count on Kristin making the most of her Oscar moment. She has an amazing voice -- which has been showcased on a few episodes of Pushing Daisies, such as "Pigeon" and "Dummy" -- and this song suits her perfectly. The Academy Awards ceremony will air on February 24th.

Maybe she didn't want to sing twice...

IIRC, this happens alot. I remember Robin Williams singing "Blame Canada" when it was nominated from South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut

And why isn't Amy Adams singing both songs on the awards show? She did sing them both in the movie. What's the point in having someone else sing the song for the telecast?

I would assume Disney would love the sing-along with the vermin as he would get the joke.
