The CW announces when its shows will return

by Joel Keller, posted Feb 15th 2008 2:20PM
The CW logoThe CW decided to hop on the bandwagon and send out a list of when its veteran shows are scheduled to return, and how many episodes each show will have left. The list is after the jump.

The "big" return week will begin on April 21, with the return of Gossip Girl, Reaper and Supernatural. The interesting part of this announcement is that the network was beginning to air new episodes of some of their shows; the eps were shot before the strike and it looked like the network wasn't going to hold them back and air them after the walkout was over. Now, it looks like they are. So, those of you who were starting to get used to the idea of new Smallville and Supernatural episodes, for instance, are going to have to watch some more reruns for a while.

By the way, if you're wondering where the network's longest-running show, Girlfriends, is on this list, the network decided to cancel it.

SERIES / ANTICIPATED RETURN / EXPECTED # OF NEW EPISODES

THE GAME / March 23 / 9

ONE TREE HILL / April 14 / 6

SMALLVILLE / April 17 / 5

GOSSIP GIRL / April 21 / 5

REAPER / April 22 / 5

SUPERNATURAL / April 24 / 4

*EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS completed 22 episodes. The 12 remaining originals will begin airing March 3.

*ALIENS IN AMERICA completed 18 episodes. The 8 remaining originals will air March 2-March 23 and April 27-May 18.

Umm you got this wrong I'm pretty sure. What The CW announced is that post-strike episodes premiere on those dates. Supernatural's last pre-strike episode is still airing next week, and Smallville's last 3 pre-strike epiosodes are still airing in March. If they weren't then Smallville would have 8 episodes left, and if they start airing on April 17th like you're saying, they'd air through May and into June, which is not gonna happen.

You might be right, Brian. But the text of the memo was pretty much what I put after the jump, with the header of: "THE CW ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR RETURN OF ORIGINAL EPISODES OF SCRIPTED SERIES." So it wasn't particularly clear.

Hm yeah that is really vague lol. I guess NBC and CBS did the same thing too though, since they both also have a few shows with episodes left. They both did the "expected to return" thing. Like CBS says Cold Case comes back March 30th - but it's new on Sunday. And NBC says L&O is back April 23rd - but it's new on Wednesday.

Seems like the networks have been doing a crappy job promoting these remaining new episodes and the ends of haituses (e.g. Family Guy), and this just makes it worse!
