Bay Area TV station first to be wind-powered

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 8th 2008 11:01AM
NBC11The future is now. NBC in the Bay Area has become the first U.S. station to run on wind power. It's part of a new campaign called Ecologic.

"This is not a hollow marketing tactic. We are taking a very frank appraisal of our carbon footprint, and will take our viewers through the process as we make changes and improvements to our building and our lives," said NBC11 President and General Manager Richard Cerussi.

This is only the beginning considering how much the world is going green. Perhaps the next television station can be run by millions of hamsters spinning in wheels. Perhaps they'll be powered by rainbows (which would be quite appropriate for the Bay Area). Or perhaps they'll even be powered by positive thinking.

Considering how much hot air is generated by television executives, I think finding an abundance of wind should be no problem at all for the network.

I don't know WTF Franklin was talking about, but the cynicism and sarcasm weren't necessary. It would have been one thing to take a jab at NBC11 for their claim, but the joke was taken too far and crossed a line. Regardless of views on energy, they aren't doing a bad thing.

Uh...I know what "Bay Area" you are talking about but you never actually say the actual city name in this post...

Great news. Now NBC will be on less than 1/2 the time it's on now, maybe even less.

The rainbow comment wasn't necessary either.

What's with the negativity and sarcasm? Seems wildly inappropriate in this case. Kudos to NBC11 for their transition.

Exactly how is his sarcasm "wildly inappropriate"? Maybe you don't agree with it, maybe it offends your tree-hugging mindset, but it's definitely not inappropriate. Considering the fact that this is really nothing more than what they say it isn't, a hollow marketing tactic, the whole announcement deserves derision and ridicule. If wind power was ready for primetime and truly viable, it wouldn't be some publicity stunt like these clowns are turning it into.

You can dish out the negativity, but you sure can't deal with it when you're in oncoming traffic. Deal with the fact that not everyone's living in your fantasy world of a perfect socialist society. Most of us still have free will, initiative and don't turn to the government to wipe our asses like you do.
