ABC and CBS greenlight three new pilots

Ah, doesn't it feel good again to bask in the rays of the television world after the cold winter that was the Writer's Strike? During that dark time it felt like we were on the way to a broadcast schedule filled with reality shows, reality game shows, and reality shows about reality shows. Now, there isn't a day that goes by that we don't hear about a pilot greenlight by one of the networks, whether it be broadcast or cable.

This time around it's ABC and CBS who are taking up the challenge by picking up a total of three pilots. ABC is picking up a single-camera comedy pilot called This Might Hurt while CBS is picking up two dramas -- Tower and Harper's Island.

Hurt, which was originally picked up by FOX then re-marketed after the Writers' Strike, is set in a family medical practice and revolves around a fifty-ish pediatrician, his internist son, and an OB/GYN who has an inherent dislike of all men (and, really, who doesn't?). Perhaps Hurt could be a companion piece with Scrubs should that comedy move over to ABC.

Over at the Eye Network, Tower will focus on a group of Chicago reporters who treat breaking news stories as cases to be both investigated and solved. What, a show about journalists who have a soul and want to help rather than sensationalize? What a concept! Meanwhile, Harper's Island is a horror story that will unfold during the course of a season as a group of friends meet on an island off the coast of Seattle for a wedding. Hmm, another serial drama that takes place on an island, huh? Not too sure if this one will make it to the schedule or not.
