New Andy Richter, Snoop Dogg shows in development at Comedy Central

Andy RichterFor all you Andy Richter fans who are still waiting for that one show that will actually last a while on the schedule, this might be good news: the former Conan O'Brien sidekick has a new show in development at Comedy Central, for the 2008-09 season. The show is still untitled, but it is described as a comedy/sketch show.

That's just one of many shows in development at Comedy Central.

Other shows include Gay Robot, an animated show about a gay college grad and his friends, from Adam Sandler; an animated show that revolves around the life of Snoop Dogg when he was a teen; America's Biggest Idiot, which sounds like American Idol, only for stupid people; Gypsy Cab, another animated show, this one about a cab driver; Search and Destroy, a scavenger hunt game show hosted by Opie & Anthony; a show from Mad TV's Bobby Lee; Reality Bites, a spoof of reality shows; Michael and Michael Have Issues, which has Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter arguing with each other; Chocolate News, a news/pop culture show starring David Allen Grier; and Speed Freaks, about two guys who blow up a meth lab and have to go on the run.

One other new show seems quite bizarre: The Scariest Show on Television, which is about comedy writers who write for Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I really want to hear more about this one.

Only one show has been picked up for the season officially: the medieval comedy show Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, will debut in early 2009.

Most of my teenage years were probably more entertaining than the majority of Snoop's. Opie & Anthony, Bobby Lee, Chocolate News... these sound bad. I think they were just trying to cover every male demographic.

Ah, you people don't know what comedy is. Andy Richter back is great... P.I. was canceled much too early. Also, you seem to have skipped over the part about Michael Ian Black and Showalter having a new show. Stella 2 Means nothing to you?

Why won't they just revive "Andy Barker, P.I."?

For new shows it looks like Comedy Central is literally throwing crap on a wall and seeing what sticks.

That lineup sounds awful. But then again, nearly all the current shows on that network are pretty much in the same category. I'm constantly amazed that "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" can survive surrounded by such junk.
