Nielsen cable ratings for the week ending March 9

SpongeBobHere are the weekly cable ratings, by number of viewers.

Spongebob is usually in the top 10 every week, but this week he seems to have gone on some campaign to take it over completely. He grabbed the second slot (actually first in households) and four other slots, while the Duke/North Carolina basketball game grabbed number 1. Project Runway's entry was the season finale, and that election coverage on CNN is from Tuesdays Texas/Ohio/Vermont/Rhode Island primaries.

As of 2 weeks ago the Tennessee/Memphis #1 versus #2 match up was the highest rated college basketball game on ESPN. But considering the network's obsession for Duke & UNC [not unlike thier unabashed love affair with the Yankees and Red Sawks] it would not surprise me that that game got higher ratings.

The WWE breaks Monday Night Raw into two different programs for two reasons. First so that it will appear in the ratings twice, secondly the last hour is outside the so-called 'family hour' and the 9pm-10:07 CST program has more violence and rauchy themes.

I'm surprised, pleasantly, that the election coverage made the list. Perhaps people are actualy paying attention & will have more than a passing knowledge about the candidates come November. Maybe not all hope for the future is lost.

I read somewhere that the 5.61 rating the Duke-UNC game got made it the highest rated college basketball game in the history of ESPN.
