AI Poll final results, AOL users got it even more wrong

David HernandezWell, the final results are in from AOL's Idol Poll, running from the end of the competition on Tuesday to the "Results Show" on Wednesday. While there's not a great deal of deviation from the preliminary results we reported on Wednesday, it's interesting that David Hernandez actually went up slightly in their rankings, from 9th to 8th, before ultimately getting eliminated. They were way off on this one. What's the margin of error, I wonder.

The only other change of any significance was Carly dropping from the #2 slot all the way down to #4, allowing David Cook and Brooke to each move up a slot. This I can understand as both of them had really good nights. But what's up with all the Syesha haters? The final tally is "after the break."

Either AOL's users don't use the phone or the Idol voters aren't AOL users. Either way these two large groups weren't on the same page at all. In fact, our own TV Squad readers were more in synch with the viewing public. Of course, you have to factor in the fact that the AOL poll allows multiple voting for the same person, actually just like the show. But that means that somebody with little to no life could have clicked for David Hernandez 6,000 times over that 24 hour timespan if they wanted to. Or build a little machine to do it for them.

AOL IDOL POLL - FINAL RESULTS
#1 - David A. (18.0%)
#2 - David C. (13.4%)
#3 - Brooke (13.4%)
#4 - Carly (13.0%)
#5 - Jason (8.1%)
#6 - Michael (6.8%)
#7 - Amanda (5.7%)
#8 - David H. (5.6%)
#9 - Chikezie (5.1%)
#10 - Ramiele (3.8%)
#11 - Kristy (3.8%)
#12 - Syesha (3.4%)

TV SQUAD IDOL POLL - FINAL RESULTS
#1 - Brooke (25.9%)
#2 - David C. (24.3%)
#3 - Chikezie (16.3%)
#4 - Carly (12.1%)
#5 - Jason (6.1%)
#6 - David A. (3.9%)
#7 - Ramiele (3.4%)
#8 - Michael (2.5%)
#9 - Amanda (2.4%)
#10 - Kristy (1.7%)
#11 - David H. (0.9%)
#12 - Syesha (0.4%)

So TV Squad readers got the bottom three right, but still blew it because Syesha was actually ranked tenth. AOL's users also put Syesha at the bottom, but had both Ramiele and Chikezie below David H. Chikezie came in third for TV Squad. Oh, and that first place finish for David A. via AOL is a much more plausible sixth place finish with TV Squad readers.

What is up with this consensus of Syesha hating? In general, AOL's results are much more balanced than the extremes seen on the TV Squad poll, but both agree that Syesha was the least liked of the night? She did wind up in the bottom three, but both David H. and Kristy pulled in fewer votes than her. Maybe online folks just don't like her.

I think people don't like Syesha because she has no personality. She doesn't connect with her songs and comes across as a diva in her interviews. She has an okay voice, but it's one we've heard from at least 3 other contestants in every season. America wants something different which is why you see Brooke, Jason, David C. & Carly doing well. Syesha can go home soon as far as I'm concerned.

AI should be required to show the actual number of votes for each of the bottom three. I don't believe for a minute that David H was the loser. I think they were just afraid he would be in the Top 10 and get to go on tour and they can't risk having a gay stripper on tour. I WANT REAL NUMBERS!!

Where's the usual "AOL is this blog's Parent company" blurb for transparency? Otherwise you're driving traffic w/out full disclosure.

I have always thought people should vote for who they want to see eliminated - it may seem to mean spirited but it would most likley drop the weakest singer

AI's telephone voting is seriously skewed by the fact that the telephone system does not have the capacity to handle the calls of everyone trying to vote at once--by an order of magnitude--so a lot of people will get busy signals. Since this problem became known several years ago, some people no longer even try to vote. But the undervote isn't randomly distributed geographically or by population, so it may affect certain singers more than others. Whereas votes by text don't have the same problem, and the time stamps allow them to be tallied later, so all the valid ones get counted. An internet poll not only has a different sample base, but its methodology allows everyone who wants to vote to do so. So differences in the results are to be expected.

Simple conclusion: Different people are voting in the AOL poll.

The only vote that matters is Fox's.
