Big Brother 9: Eviction #5 and HOH #6

by Kristin Sample, posted Mar 20th 2008 9:02AM
Mattie prays for vengeance.(S09E17) I have to say something before I start talking about last night. The Bible buddies segments on this show have saved the winter Big Brother in my opinion. Okay, maybe Big Brother 9 is still the worst season fans have ever seen, but the Bible buddies segments that feature Mattie, A-Baller, and Ryan are still pretty darn funny.

My review of Big Brother's fifth eviction ceremony and the sixth Head of Household competition is after the jump.

The Plight of Mattie

James replaced Sheila on the block with Matt from Boston and he was not too happy about it. Matt cried and pushed away from Natalie's apologetic arms like a big baby. He even whined about how his mother told him to come back with some money. Outside, Matt cried to an unsympathetic James about how he just wanted to help out his mother. He feels like a failure in the house. And after all the crying, Mattie made a very true statement, "you reap what you sow." I wonder if he learned that from all his bible study?

After the crying was over and Adam gave him a pep talk, Matt started his campaigning. He knew he had Adam and Natalie but he needed one more person. That leaves the ladies. Sheila, who promised her vote to Ryan early on, and Sharon and Chelsia, who wouldn't promise there vote to anyone.

Sharon studies the guinea pigs. Matt first tried the sympathetic approach (mixed with a bit of Rico Suave) for the ladies. He cried to Chelsia and Sharon who both told him that they just didn't know who they were voting for yet. But in their diaries, both ladies made fun of the downtrodden Matt who was begging to stay.

Then Matt tried the mudslinging aproach. In the backyard with all three ladies present, he blatantly asked them, "What have I done to you?" (something A-Baller told him to do). Then he proceeded to point out all the things Ryan had done to each of them. Matt was smart to highlight to Chelsia that Ryan put James up on the block and yelled at her and told her she was next. Then he underscored to Sheila that Ryan took $10,000 from her.

Wow. It actually worked. Matt got the wheels turning in Sheila's head. (And for as annoying as Sheila is to the other houseguests, she seems like a real catalyst in the house.) Sheila marched right up to Jame's HOH room and told him that she, Adam and Nattie were voting to keep Matt. She then pressed James about what he would do to break the tie.

A Interesting Reveal

Natalie thinks about how she shouldn't have voted James back in the house. I need to mention this quickly before I move on the with recap. With the houseguests seated, the ChenBot brought up last week's vote to bring James back in the house. In an effort to get into the houseguest's heads, she asked for a show of hands, "How many of you thought that Allison was in the mystery box?" Basically, all the people that voted for James to come back thought that Allison was the alternative.

Then Julie revealed that Alex was the one America picked and asked the houseguests to raise their hands again. With the knowledge the Alex was in the mystery box, Matt, Ryan, Natalie (the rogue vote last week) and Sheila would have voted him in for a second chance.

How I wish BB had told the houseguests who they were voting back in. Many of you commented how you thought James' return to the house was bullsh*t and I agree with you. I can't stand him. They voted him out fair and square and I would have rather seen Alex walk back through that door. Why did I even bother voting on the CBS website?

Dick and Danielle...Still talking to each other, Still annoying the rest of us

Dick, Danielle, Zach and Nick The ChenBot then presented us with an update on last season's winner Evel Dick and his daughter Tanorexic Danielle. (*I feel I should note that at NO time did Big Brother refer to Danielle Donato as tanoxeric. It's just my little pet name for her. My other pet name for her is Skeletor. Remember Skeletor from He-Man? But I digress...)

Dick and Danielle are still talking. Danielle says the relationship is not perfect, but it's better than it was. This translates into "My dad bought me a car and a trip to Europe with some of his winnings so I guess he's not a complete Dick." And what did Danielle do with her money? Well, to me, it looked like she bought some boobs. What about you? Did you think those were fresh from the plastic surgeon?

Danielle also mentioned that she's no longer romantically involved with Nick. Aww, wait while I wipe that tear from my eye. She says they're just not compatible. Wonder if she's back with her ex-boyfriend who she dumped on national TV last summer? Who wouldn't want such a classy girl back in his life?

Live Eviction Ceremony

Josh tans his bod.Chelsia: evicted Matt
Joshua: evicted Matt (looked way too happy about it)
Sharon: evicted Matt
Natalie: evicted Ryan (no big surprise there)
Adam: evicted Ryan
Sheila: evicted Ryan (always looks so darn serious when she votes--you're not voting for one of them to be flogged)

A tie! James had to be the tie-breaking vote. He quickly stood up and voted out Mattie. While James didn't seem too unhappy about it, Matt looked devastated. And I don't mean pissed off or sad or annoyed or betrayed. I mean devastated. He barely got through his interview without crying. I have to be honest, I never pegged him as such a softy. He even cried as he watched the video messages.

The Chenster asked Matt if he felt he could have a real relationship with Natalie outside the house. He seemed adamant that she was just a friend. Ouch. No one likes to hear that one. Then Matt said that she was a great girl, she had a lot going for her (which included being former NFL cheerleader), and that Natalie will make some guy very happy one day. I agree with Matt but I must add one more stipulation. Natalie will indeed make some guy really happy, provided that guy is hard of hearing.

HOH Competition: "En Garde"

It was a "Which evicted houseguest said this?" competition. The houseguests were read quotations taken from the diary room and had to figure out which evicted houseguest said them. They had to go up two at a time to face-off. After one houseguest got the question correct, he/she could pick the next two competitors.

Josh, Chelsia, and James Josh and Chelsia [Winner: Chelsia]
"We're the power couple. We're like Brad..." --Parker
Josh said Jen so he was eliminated.

Natalie and Sheila [Winner: Natalie]
"This is Big Brother. We decided to make our own rules. We could be anyone we want in this house." --Allison
Natalie got it right. Whoa. I was even rooting for her after that.

Chelsia and Sharon [Winner: Chelsia]
"If Allison reveals the secret, she will screw up my game and that will really really really piss me off." --Jen
Chelsia got it right.

Adam and Natalie [Winner: Adam]

"You cannot trust a kid with a pink mohawk." --Matt
Adam got it right although Natalie tried to buzz in. (And from her previous win, I think she had this question right too.)

Chelsia and Ryan [Winner: Chelsia]

"I decided to tell people in the household that I worked for a company rather than owning a company." --Alex
Chelsia got this one. Ryan looked annoyed that she beat him.

Chelsia and Adam [Winner: Adam, new HOH]
"I think I'm stuck in a love..." --Amanda
Where did Adam pull this one from? He heard female houseguest and took his best guess. All he wanted to do was beat Chelsia to the buzzer. And it worked. Phew. I'm happy he beat her. I couldn't take another week of James being in power (even if it's just as an assistant HOH).

So, Adam is Head of Household. He's already mentioned that he loves being HOH but he's apprehensive about having to nominate two people. Tune in on Sunday to see who Adam nominates for eviction.

Who is definitely going up on the block Sunday?
Sheila48 (9.0%)
James198 (37.3%)
Chelsia63 (11.9%)
Ryan21 (4.0%)
Natalie39 (7.3%)
Sharon34 (6.4%)
Joshua128 (24.1%)

Hi Dick (if it is in fact, you),

Nice to know you read the blogs. Congratulations on the victory. I thought the way you played the game was masterful, brother. I thought your analysis of this season was right on, also. Good luck in the future.

I'm not a big fan of Adam. He just has freaky eyes that remind me of Charles Manson. I think it would be pure poetry if his pink slip was included in his HOH welcome basket. Assuming the rumor about his canning is true. The web site for the huge foundation he works for seems cheezy with a capital fake.

over at realitybbq.com they have updates on all the houseguests and i found out there that they are now dating, they also had this weird photo tribute to them of their photos together on dates and stuff. they actually went on like a ski vacation with zack, and also had a pic of like a double date with eric and jessica. Personally I would also date Jen before Danielle. Jen seemed a little eccentric but Danielle got down right annoying and whiny for my taste. I can't wait for James to go as well, he thinks he's the best BB player ever and we all know thats really Dr. Will

I can't wait for Jmaes to get the boot again, hopefully for good this time. He's such a hypocrite, so self-righteous it's sickening.

I wonder if Dick has any money left at all? He doesn't seem like the type who would put something back. I hope he pulls a Richard hatch & doesn't pay his taxes. I would so get a kick out of hearing he got sent to jail. Well, I can dream.

Wow, Jayr, where did you hear that about Nick & Jen? I figured after what happened in the house, where it was obvious Jen was jelous of Dani getting all the attention from Nick and everything, they would never hook up. Personally, I think I'd rather date Jen. I always thought she got a bad rap & wasn't that bad of a person, based on just things on the show. A little odd, maybe, but not bad.

I just wanted to offer up a nice fat fuck you.

I find it amusing and disturbing how the majority of you web writers... meaning you can't get a job writing for a legitimate publication... talk about how people speak to and about each other on reality shows, yet you talk even worse, say things that are completely untrue and pass it off as fact and at times outright lie about things, yet somehow seem to think you are above it all, lmao.

At least the motivation for us was half million. What is yours $50 a week?

Again, I say.... fuck you.

while what adam did was smart in the long run it was kind of risky too. whats to say that BB didnt throw in two quotes from the same houseguest. i actually think it was pretty stupid of BB not to put in two quotes from the same houseguest for this very reason. Man Matt sure did look crushed to be evicted. He kind of like threw Natalie off of him as he was walking out the door, I thought he would have at least given her a nice long hug or something. at least he didnt get evicted unanimously (sp?) twice like allison did. So Dick and Danielle are still talking, thats nice I guess. I found out that Nick is now dating crazy Jen from his season, didnt really see that one coming. I dont really think its a wise thing to backdoor anyone thats going to the sequester house because they are going to remember that. say if James does make it to the end do you really think that Matt will vote for him now that James not only broke his word but backdoored him as well. It seems that Ryan, Sheila, Adam and Natalie have a pretty solid alliance, as long as one of them (Sheila) dosent do something crazy and mess it up. I say you put up James and Chelsia with Josh as a POV replacement.

Adam was right on at the HOH. His strategy worked. Good for him. That's just what you do; use all the tools available to your advantage, and that's just what he did. James should be scared now tho. After all, Adam is officially with the other team. I consider James a strong player, thus I would try to evict him. And this is the point I want to make about James. He may be a strong competitor, but not very smart strategist. He should have evicted Ryan--who is a stronger player than Matt was. All this talk about Matt and Natalie being a strong team is nothing; their strength is solely based on Natalie's lust for Matt; he doesn't even feel the same way towards her, even at the slightest--in fact, when Natalie tried to comfort Matt after James put him up for eviction, he brushed her aside saying he's ok and needs to be alone, walks away--and, what do you know? He just went to another room and talked with other houseguests! Natalie should be embarassed at the way she throwed herself all over Matt. The dude is just not into her, and he couldn't have expressed it any better than he did on the show. Another example is when he was giving her a massage(which he only promised because she struck a deal with James not to put Matt up on the block): he just used his hands to spread the lotion/oil. Looks like the whole time he used the roller--but of course Natalie said he's great at giving massages-to which he said, "really?" LOL. Going back, I think what James should have done is (realizing he may be a tie-breaker), before the eviction ceremony, he should have told Matt that in case of a tie, that he-James would try to evict Ryan and keep Matt safe; essentially making Matt indebted to him. He should have made all this talk about the reason he put him(Matt) up is just to teach him a lesson but that it's Ryan he really wants out. Ryan would have been evicted and even with Adam as HOH he should be feeling pretty safe because he's on the good side of Matt and Natalie--even Shiela who he removed from the block when he replaced her with Matt at the POV. James should have also talked to Shiela before the POV ceremony. He should have made it appear to her that he's doing her a favor by taking her out of the block and putting Matt up (even when his real intentions was really just to scare Matt--and then save him later too). She would have been greatful, she would have felt indebted. James could have made this all work for him, but his emotions got the better of him. He liked the 'shock' factor--shocking everyone with his decisions. He was smiling then, he's not smiling now after Adam-a member of the other team- won HOH. Ryan is still around-who, even if he spared from the last eviction doesn't in any way feel indebted to him, and will try to evict him again. Natalie is furious for obvious reasons. And he didn't make the talk with Shiela when he took her off the block. I would be really scared if I were James right now...

I have to wonder if Baller wasn't trying to throw HOH by buzzing in early and guessing? I don't think he's on anyones radar as being a threat, so he would probably have been safe this week. Just a thought...

Where in Matt's bible does it say it is alright for strange women to give him oral sex?

Who says Matt is a bible thumper? It's the only book BB puts in the house. Out of boredom and atheist would be reading it.
