Voting last night set a record for the season with an impressive 30 million votes coming in. Tonight's medley was a preview of what the tour will bring, with the Top 10 dancing and singing just as awkwardly as every other group performance. Maybe they should get Paula to choreograph these things. Can you believe Ramiele is again sporting the off-the-shoulder look? And Jason Castro was having way too much fun with this number; disturbingly so. "Hey guys, if you are supposed to wave one arm up, I'm going to flail both of my arms and jump around in a circle. Cool?" But in the end, Carly was the one who fell over trying to keep her balance. These things are a disaster, does anyone truly like them?

We got some background information on the iTunes tracks. I didn't know that they were re-recorded in a studio, and that they got to sing the full version of the song rather than the bastardized minute-and-a-half version we get to see on the show. Man, that makes the iTunes downloads almost worth it in some case. I'm totally downloading Kristy Lee Cook's "God Bless the USA." And I'm not believing for a minute that Carly isn't familiar with the boards in the studios considering she's already recorded a major album. And she also wouldn't be getting a huge kick out of seeing a single by her either. She's recorded a music video for cripe's sake! Of course, one iTunes single of hers has probably sold 100x what her album did.

FORD COMMERCIAL - "I Want You to Want Me"
What I can't believe is that Ford is three-for-three in commercials that are actually pretty good. This was the best one yet, with the contestants singing from shirts and posters and CD covers. Simple and effective. There's got to be a whole new team putting these together this year.

KIMBERLY LOCKE - "Fall"
She came in third behind the one-two juggernaut punch of Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken back in Season 2. She found success after the show recording a debut album and enjoying a modest hit with the single "8th World Wonder." After that run, she partnered in opening a steakhouse. She's lost forty pounds and has more confidence than ever before. And now she's on her second album, Based on a True Story. She looked great tonight and while the song didn't blow me away, she was every bit as great a vocalist as she was on her Season 2 run. If this girl had been on last year she probably could have run away with the whole thing.

LIVE PHONE CALLS
Chikezie - "You have such a great personality ... I was wondering if you are single?" He is. If he gets eliminated tonight, he'll even have the time to date.
David A. - "Why did you choose to sing 'You're the Voice'?" It's one of his all-time favorite songs and he thinks John Farnham is amazing.
Simon - "What do I need to do to take Ryan Seacrest's job?" You don't need a lot of talent.
Brooke - "If you could do a duet with anybody you wanted to, who would it be?" For a contemporary artist, she selected John Mayer.
Simon - "Do you consider yourself the most attractive person on the show, and why?" His response: "It's now what I say, it's what other people say."

"IDOL GIVES BACK" UPDATE
$76 million raised and tonight we got to see the local impact of that money. We learn that there are 10,000 kids in after-school programs now because of your donations. 120 million meals were delivered to the poor and three new medical units have administered 4,000 much-needed immunizations. 25,000 books were donated to impoverished communities. And in response to the wildfires of last year and the tornadoes in Tennessee, food and shelter was provided to evacuated families. I can't go on enough about how wonderful a program this is and how amazing that Idol uses their "power" for such great charity.

BUILDING THE BOTTOM THREE
One by one this week, Chikezie was the first to face the firing squad. And before Ryan could say anything, Chikezie was headed to the stools where the Bottom Three would sit. And he was right to do so. Next came Brooke White who wasn't hurt at all by her false start last night. Straight into the Top 9. Carly Smithson came out next and addressed a news story that she was pregnant that broke just before the story. The story is false and she'll be back next week to continue not being pregnant.

David Archuleta and David Cook quickly found their ways to the land of eternal safety, as did Michael Johns. but the voting wasn't as kind to Syesha Mercado. I don't know how that could be, considering she had one of the stronger vocals of the night, but America just isn't connecting with Syesha. And then there's Ramiele Malubay. Despite lackluster performances week after week, she pulled out enough last night to keep herself safe.

That left the final two contestants, Kristy Lee Cook and Jason Castro. One was safe and the other not so much. Well, considering the "shock" factor that Idol loves to manufacture, you just knew it would be Jason in the bottom three.

GOING HOME
Ryan brought all three center stage and while Jason rambled on and on about how he expected to be there, Ryan had to cut him off to tell him he was safe. That leaves Chikezie and Syesha hanging on by a thread. In the end, the axe dropped and cut Chikezie from the show. Of the two of them, this is the right choice, though I don't think Chikezie got the shake he deserved on the show.

MY PICKS
I got two out of three correct on the Bottom Three; I really thought Ramiele would slip in there, making it two weeks in a row I thought she'd be there and she wasn't. At least I got smart enough to stop thinking Kristy would get cut. In fact, for the first time in several weeks, I got it right with Chikezie. That raises my season total to 6-9.

YOUR PICKS
You guys put Chikezie and Syesha down there with Carly, so that's two out of three for you as well. Now if you guys keep it up like this, I'm never gonna catch up. That's right, you put Chikezie right in elimination's way, raising your season total to a stunning 11-4. Seriously, you guys should collectively go to Vegas.

Who should have been cut?
Brooke29 (1.3%)
Carly36 (1.7%)
David A.54 (2.5%)
David C.16 (0.7%)
Michael9 (0.4%)
Ramiele751 (34.8%)
Kristy526 (24.4%)
Syesha62 (2.9%)
Jason125 (5.8%)
They got it right (Chikezie)551 (25.5%)

Please vote for the one who you would buy a CD from, not for looks, not for popularity, not for song choice. Ramiele has a very pretty voice, Jason has nice eyes, nice personality but his voice is mediocre. Brooke is very talented with all her instruments but really, would you buy her record? Syesha has a great voice and should be near the top, not the bottom. Just to contradict myself, I am distracted by Carly's tatoo. I do like her voice but she gets screamy at the high notes. High does not have to mean louder. Notice how when Ramiele does a high note, it is still pretty, not "screamy". Christy, well, I thought she should be off weeks ago and still do. her america song the best but so what. still would you buy her record??? The 2 Davids are the best, think David A has some issues though and does not seem to put his heart into a song. I think he just thought he would breeze through on his past success as a little kid. David C. very talented but, frankly, I don't think I'd buy a record from any of them. Michael does not have a good voice to me, just good looking guy.

I AGREE with you! but the truth is lately we have mediocre talent coming out of the American music market. Clarkson is nothing special and so is Akins. Underwood is ok but this 15 year old could give Celine Dion a run for her money.

Just wondering...About the 'bottom three'

We know they have to reveal the person with the least number of votes, but how do we know the other two are the next lowest vote getters?

They can put anyone they want in those two chairs because they know they'll be back for another week.

Were Jason and Syeshia placed there for shock value or to send them/us a message? And were Ramiele and Carly not placed there because it will look better next week when one of them is booted? Remember when Ruben was also in the bottom three?

Just wondering.

I think it's all fake...the vote totals aren't given out because they are hiding something. I voted for Jason and didn't get the usual response via text message telling me my vote went through. I think they manipulate the votes to promote their own choices. Ever wonder why each week there's a "shocker" in the bottom 3? Even Jason Castro mentioned that when they told him, and he was OBVIOUSLY STONED! I think they let people vote, but they choose which ones to count and which to throw out, or something like that...

In a democracy, if you cannot see who gets which votes, it's not considered a free and fair system...so how is it fair on TV voting? I would like to know the EXACT numbers for each contestant.

Chikezie was good but you either go now or you go in a few weeks. Ramiele, Syesha, Kristy, Brooke, Michael. They will all go over the next few weeks. None are good enough to win the whole thing.

TO DAN:

Hate new kids on the block and definitely hate that grungie noise NIrvana...True Ramile sounded bad on Alone but she didn't sound right at all..but yesterday during the group segment her voice really sounded great. The problem with you people is you think these people are pros and there are professional arrangers doing their songs..AH got news for you..Underwood sounds a lot better today in her CD's because of all the pros doing the background work..OH and I did like Underwood great voice just like Carly and Ramiele

Goes to show you that I was right about this one..."hate the grungie noise of Nirvana" means you really have no clue about music when Nirvana singlehandedly brought us out of the late 1980s music hell. MUSICIANS write their own music, play their own instruments and arrange their own songs, only "popstars" (read: talentless voices who are manufactured by corporate big-wigs) have people write and remix and arrange their music. Carrie Underwood's voice sounded better ON STAGE...I don't listen to her album music, I just brought up the youtube clip of her doing the exact same song and there was simply no comparison. I don't even like Carrie Underwood. When you're just 10 of 100,000+, you SHOULD sound like a professional and not someone who I would overshadow at a karaoke bar. Seriously, I see better singers in high school a capella groups than some of the people on stage. And that's not to mention all of the high schoolers who have their own bands, write their own music, promote themselves and record their own CDs in the garage...those are the ones with real talent. If you've had 7 chances to prove yourself on stage and have yet to do so, you don't belong. Ramiele has yet to prove herself...and the group numbers are a joke and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Just out of curiousity, which are your favorite CDs?

I'm sorry to see Chikezie go, I thought he would be around for a few weeks more. I thought Ramiele would be the one cut.

The Ford commercial was really fun - especially since I used to go to see Cheap Trick in local bars when they were first starting out.

Personality, Originality, Performance, Arrangements...what non-sense. When I was younger and bought CD, that didn't come into play. The only thing that matters is how they sound..great voice is what eventually sells...and Carly, Michael Johns and Ramille has the best voice out of this group. If professionals where doing their arrangements these three would be on top.

Wow, so you obviously don't have very good taste in music if songwriting, creativity and authenticity don't come into play. I bet you liked New Kids on the Block and Mili Vanili and hated Nirvana and Tupac Shakur, right? Ramiele sounded good in her audition, and since then has been unable to stay on pitch. Compare her version of "Alone" to Carrie Underwood, and you'll see that there is NO comparison. Ramiele should have been gone already.

Chikezie might put out an amazing album if he does things the right way. He has a very unique sound if he takes the African Roots Music, Bluegrass and Soul sides and mixes them together. I can see him putting out a legendary album if he does that...however, if he goes the Vandross route, he'll vanish within a year. Sad to see him go, he was the most creative one on the show and he had a unique sound.

Kristy Lee Cook should have been disqualified for that song (and for her butchering of "8 Days a Week") and been long gone instead of any of the bottom three. The true bottom 3 should have been: Kristy Lee Cook, David Archuleta (ghastly was right) and Ramiele Malubay.

Kristy Lee should have been gone LOOOOng ago. She has a range of about 5 notes and gets pitchy on the 5th one. I Cannot understand that one. Brooke White is too milk toast....I don't get it with her either...although my husband thinks she's sexy in a barbie way. I love David Cook and think his rendition of "Billie Jean" surpassed David A's incredible performace of "Imagine". Carly is very talented but won't win. I think David A will be the winner.

Bring Back Double-elimination

I liked Cheesy but he had to go at some point, just like alot of the others mentioned here. At this point almost any of the remaining singers could be dismissed. It's fascinating to watch week to week how Krista Lee Cook manages to dodge elimination. Clearly, she's the prettiest on stage but she's got no performance mojo. And I'm just tired of Carly advertising her painted arm every week, too, she's the remaining "Amanda". She'll be dismissed in the next week or two also.

Thank goodness for DVRs, though, it only took me 15 mins to spin through the 60 minute show skipping all the self-admiration fluff. I just wish they were still eliminating two contestants each week instead of drawing this out for so long, then drop to single elimination when they get to the Top 5.
