Man too good for Doctor Who sells Tardis

by Annie Wu, posted Mar 30th 2008 12:02PM
TardisA fellow named Simon White is selling his Tardis on eBay. Why? Jesus.

Okay, maybe that's not the best way to put it. According to White, he has been a hardcore Who fan for most of his life, going as far as spending years and years building a K-9, cyberman and Tardis in addition to collecting figurines. After a lot of troubles with bipolar disorder and alcoholism in his adult years, he found God and ceased his self-destructive ways. Despite claiming that his fandom was the only thing holding him together in his rough times, White is now dumping his Who love and toys, calling it a symbol of the "greatest lie that Satan ever told." He'll be selling his entire collection of goodies, worth an estimated £7000, in magazines and on eBay.

I don't see Satan's totally awesome lie on eBay just yet, but I doubt I'd be able to afford a walk-in Tardis anyway. Until I have really heavy pocket change, I think I'll stick with my plastic Sonic Screwdriver pen.

On a related note, my birthday is next month and there's an empty Tardis-shaped space at my place. I'm just sayin'.

Sounds like he joined a Baptist church... =)

Seriously though, IF he feels his Who OBSESSION was keeping him from God (i.e. not the show itself, but, rather, being obesessed with the show [enough to build/buy a full-scale Tardis..]), then all the more power to him.

However, if he feels the show itself is Satanic, then I would argue with that. There's nothing wrong with being a Christian AND a Who fan (whom happens to have a Sonic Screwdriver pen as well, but not a full-size Tardis....).

Besides, I think the greatest lie Satan ever told was that God doesn't exsist....

Why is it that whenever someone "finds God", they suddenly have to throw out all other interests except for preaching about God? God shouldn't mind if you have a hobby, dangit.

People with outside interests cannot devote their full energy and economic well-being to the church (/temple/mosque--this seems to be true of all religions--the more devout you are, the more you're encouraged to do nothing else but pray).

Also, they may start thinking for themselves.

So as a newly converted guy, he's wanting to profit from what he sees as a Satanic lie? Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?

... I have nothing to say that doesn't contain, "WHY, JESUS, WHY?"

Meh, whatever floats your boat. If the guy is better than he was I suppose that's all that matters.
