CBS yanks Secret Talents after one episode

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 10th 2008 2:43PM
George TakeiWell, we didn't think Secret Talents of the Stars was so bad. We were in the minority. The network has had second thoughts. After just one showing, CBS has canceled Secret Talents of the Stars. The reason stated is poor ratings. The airing on Wednesday was only watched by 4.6 million viewers, with fewer and fewer keeping the channel on CBS as the hour progressed. That's a bad sign. Bad enough to warrant the chopping block.

So, George Takei singing country music, county star Clint Black doing standup, and Sacha Cohen showing off her flexibility failed to capture the imagination of the public. Big shock. This was an idea that should have never made it into production, if you ask me. And CBS is generally above this dreck, although last year they did foist Armed and Famous on TV audiences -- remember, Erik Estrada, LaToya Jackson, Jack Osbourne, and other stars sworn in as police officers in Muncie, Indiana? That was a ridiculous notion, too. It lasted three episodes. Presumably, CBS would have figured out that this type of star reality series is an iffy proposition at best.

CBS plans to run news programs in the Wednesday time slot for the foreseeable future. We'll never get to see the other produced episodes. Next week, for instance, we would have seen pro boxer Roy Jones Jr. sing rap and soap star Josh Morrow (from The Young and the Restless) try extreme juggling. How will we ever go on?

And somewhere at CBS an executive is banging his head against a wall and saying "why didn't we order two series of 'The Amazing Race' this year?"

I have to admit, hearing that this show is cancelled after one airing makes me smile. In fact, I'm giddy. They cancelled Jericho, a well-written, interesting and thought-provoking show, & put this crapfest. I hope everything they put on in this slot fails. It'll be good karma for them.

I didn't even know it had aired yet. I hear about a show and hear that it is canceled before I even see it. Probably wouldn't have watched it anyways, but still.

Finally they made the right call about something over there in Dipshitlandwood. Except for the decision to air garbage like that in the first place.

Is it just me or have there been an influx of new shows cancelled after the first episode?

2 thumbs up - now get rid of american idol, dancing with the stars, and all the other garbage and get back to real TV!
