Six reasons why we need a Las Vegas movie

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 10th 2008 3:05PM
Josh DuhamelNBC's Las Vegas ended abruptly in February with two couples -- Danny and Delinda and Sam and Vic (her deceased ex-husband's brother) -- just about ready to tie the knot. But the shocking news that Cooper had died in a plane crash blanketed the ceremony in a gloomy pall -- the same pall that Vegas fans felt upon learning that the series had been canceled. Here are my top six reasons why Las Vegas needs to come back for a wrap-up movie, if not another season:

1. Spin-Off Opp. A TV movie would be a great opportunity to spin Las Vegas into a new series for Josh Duhamel and James Caan. I've sorely missed watching Caan rough up the bad guys this season, and he and Duhamel would make a great P.I. duo, collaring modern-day Vegas criminals a la Crime Story's Lt. Torello. Are you listening, Michael Mann? Pretty please, with wing-tip shoes on top?

2. Baby Closure.
Call me sentimental, but I need to know that Danny and Delinda's baby is OK. Creating a major cliff-hanger with Delinda clutching her belly after seeing the not-dead Cooper, and then not resolving it for viewers? That's just plain cruel. After all this couple has been through, don't Danny and Delinda deserve a little happiness? Oh sure, some say Danny's one true love was Mary, but I disagree. He and Delinda have a wacky chemistry that will see them through the tough times. Plus, Delinda's dad, Ed, is the closest thing Danny has to a father, and her mom's pretty cool, too.

3. Confirmation of Piper's Paternity. A movie would, no doubt, confirm my suspicions that Piper is Cooper's daughter -- no matter what he says. With both of them sporting those super-cute dimples? Please. They're related. Sure, Cooper's a man of honor, but something tells me his story – you know, the one about seeing his Marine buddy die in the line of duty and vowing to take care of his daughter, no matter what -- won't hold water in the big picture.

4. A Reunion for the Gang. A movie would offer a chance to get the gang back together. Just think of all the people who could show up for a wrap-up movie: James Caan as tough-guy Ed Deline; Nikki Cox as sweet Mary (let's give her a rich husband and a couple of kids, one of whom looks like Danny); Dean Cain and Lara Flynn Boyle, back from the dead (it was all a dream – hey, stranger things have happened); not to mention the parade of entertainers who've rocked the Montecito, including The Pussycat Dolls, Sugarland, Everlast, Rihanna, and a group close to Duhamel's heart, The Black-Eyed Peas.

5. Resolution for Mike and Piper. A movie would give Mike and Piper a chance to resolve their sex issues and realize they indeed belong together. These two are loveably goofy and have the chutzpah to overcome such secondary problems. What they need is to get away from it all – take a nice romantic honeymoon to the south of France, away from security cameras and concierge concerns. Trust me. That's what they need.

6. One Last Night with Sam. I can't live without at least one more night of snark from the irreverent Sam. She's my girl-crush hero. In fact, I want to be Sam when I grow up, because she forges onward, no matter what. One minute, she's the owner of the Montecito. The next, she's forced to take a hostess job at a sleazy strip club. And despite that scary plane ride where she was taken hostage and forced to endure unspeakable things, the bottom line is she'll always be Sam. Strong, self-reliant, scrappy Sam. Ah, good times.

This was and is my favorite show. I watched or DVR'ed it every week. Please either reinstate it or give us a proper ending.

yup! that's right!
"to be continued..." with what?.. 'Macau'?
NBC is treating loyal fans to the show as nothing, just some disposable idiots

One question to NBC Universal, if you don't allow for a conclusion, how are you going to sell all those season 5 and complete series dvd boxed sets you are planning on producing?

Come on NBC we aren't asking for much we want and need a series ending to Vegas we are loyal fans that have been watching Vegas for 5 years and yet you end the show like its a season cliff hanger and then make the decison not to bring it back without any thoughs to the fans that have been loyal to NBC are you telling us not to get involved in your series on your channel because when you get ready to end it well you do without a thought to the fans that have invested time in the characters and the story line. I have been waiting all season for Delinda and Danny to have their baby the story line has been centered around this baby and now you end it without a proper farewell we the fans would like it to stay on but if you cant or won't then just give the fans what they want a true ending to 5 wonderful season of Vegas and keep sending those baby booties and signing those petitions we deserve to be heard we demand it!!!!!!!!!!!

I really love this fun, funny show. I looked forward to relaxing at the end of the week on a Friday night watching this show to kick off a weekend right. It has just the right amount of fun, love story and crime solving to make it entertaining but light and enjoyable. The characters are the best looking, best loving and great together that TV has. This is not Law and Order or something with blood and guts, it's more entertaining than that and I can't believe they cancelled it to begin with but goodness sakes, let the show end as it was intended!! The fans and actors deserve some closure!!

I can't believe Vegas is gone. The show was left us with so many unanswered questions. We need a two hour movie and a spin off would be great.
