Alicia Silverstone gets mom role in Bad Mother's Handbook
Be that as it may, Alicia Silversone has now been officially cast on the pilot Bad Mother's Handbook. Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) will also appear in the show as Alicia's daughter. This comedy project has been set up at ABC and previously announced in the rush of production greenlighted soon after the writers' strike.
What, you say, how can someone as young as Alicia have a child as old as Alia? Technically, it's doable. Alicia is currently 32 years-old, so either they're going to make her an early starter, or she'll just play older. It's easier playing older than younger, you know. According to the synopsis of the pilot, Alicia's character is 32 years old and has a 16-year-old daughter. Also in the mix is Alicia's 48 year-old mama -- still uncast.
This is Alicia's latest attempt at series success. NBC's Miss Match (2003) was promising, but fizzled out after less than a season. NBC tried again in 2006, plugging Alicia into The Singles Table. That show was yanked after five episodes. Other projects that never went far include Queen B for Fox and an ABC pilot called Pink Collar.
Alicia's a good comic actress, perhaps destined to have a hit series. Time will tell if Bad Mother's Handbook will do the trick.
