The latest revamp in the works: Blake's 7

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 24th 2008 6:03PM

Blake's 7Sky One plans to create a new version of the 70's BBC cult hit, Blake's 7. The original series was a creation of Terry Nation, who also created the famous Doctor Who aliens, the Daleks. The original concept centered around a group of rebels fighting against a totalitarian planetary Federation.

The original Blake's 7 was a great experiment and had two qualities that were unique for its time. First, it used a continuous storyline between episodes before such things were commonplace. Second, in its final episode the enemy seemingly killed all of the primary cast, including Roj Blake (the character for whom the show is named).

The program has far more of a cult status in England than America and the DVD set has yet to be released in Region 1.

Will the program be a continuation of the events of the 70's program or a complete reboot? In terms of quality, will it be more like Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica or more like Flash Gordon? I guess we'll see.

I love me some Blake's 7. Cheesy bad effects, decent acting, good eye candy, revolving cast, horrible wardrobes, good and bad computers and the greatest redeeming factor that only British shows manage to pull off. A central character that is 99% detestable but also manages to drive the show (Avon).

I'd love to see a re-make of this but let it be done in the U.K. and not the US. We'd kill it just like we're going to kill TopGear when it's remade in the states.

I have been hearing about this show for 20+ years, but I have yet to see a single episode. When will the DVDs be available in the US?

Unfortunately, the only choices you have at the moment are:

1) Buy region 2 DVDs and a region-free player
2) Buy/rent VHS copies
3) Check your local PBS listings in the off chance they're playing it
4) Get it via "other internet" resources

None of those are really desirable options, but that's what Americans are currently stuck with.

No comments about the possible resurrection of a classic scifi series. Why? Dipshit liberal children that populate this rancid pile of socialist illiteracy known as TVSquad are too young and self-absorbed to remember anything before their first experience with drug use.
