Ask TV Squad: Is The Mole coming back to TV?

The Mole
When we opened TV Squad's mail bag today, we found this question from Robyn S.: "Am I losing it or am I seeing subliminal messages on ABC like "The Mole is watching you" and "The Mole is coming"? Quick, 2-3 second flashes after commercials. Is The Mole coming back this summer?"

Robyn, you'll be happy to know that you are not losing it, ABC's The Mole is indeed coming back to TV this summer.

In early January, ABC announced that it would resurrect their famous game/reality show in which contestants must work together on various assignments and try to discover who amongst them was tasked to screw things up (aka, be the mole).

Fans of the show will remember that the first editions of The Mole were hosted by news man Anderson Cooper. However, he is not returning for this new season of betrayals and mole digging. Instead, ABC tapped Jon Kelley to guide contestants through the various assignments.

Robyn, you'll also be happy to know that you have not been dreaming up those subliminal messages. ABC is indeed airing 2-3 seconds long commercials to hype the show, which will offer online and mobile interactivity for more viewer participation. The Mole will premiere on June 2 at 10 p.m. (some sources say May 26 but the ABC site says June) and will air for ten straight weeks every Monday. For more information, check the show's official website.

I'm psyched that The Mole is coming back! I've already got my last 2 game set up. Anyone playing this season?

Great Mole game on Fafarazzi.com

Choose 3 of the contestants and get points for things they do during the episode. Like win challenges, know the most about The Mole, do well on the quiz, etc.

come play :)

I hope the show succeeds this time around! I would love to have it be an annual thing.

Although I believe Celebrity Mole's main problem was Ahmad Rashad, the show is a lot more interesting when watching unknown contestants.

And to think I just thought it was the local network reusing betamax tape at master control to run their ads.. interesting to here as I liked the none celebrity incarnations, esp since they deliberately leave clues to the identity for the audience but are so subtle they are hard to distinguish.

no offense mike... but i doubt it

with all of the legal, mumbo jumbo, confidentiality clauses that go on with a show like this i would be very surprised to hear that you can say anything... even something as innocuous as saying you were an alternate on the show.

If this is true, you are an alternate and you are risking going up against a bunch of corporate suits to look cool in a comments section... well... lets just hope you are a liar

why would you come forward with something like that if it was true?? Havent many "reality tv stars" originally been alternates for other shows? Why risk not getting on the next one??

If the show is really good (and we hope it is) then the cast of unknowns should provide plenty of good viewing. I really dislike that so many reality shows think they have to spice things up with celebrities all the time. That just screams "This isn't really meant to be a good show but we hope you won't notice since we're going to distract you by bringing in your favorite singer/actor/model/has-been."

Just make it a good show to begin with and get a good group of regular people.

It's not a celebrity edition. I was one of the Final 15 applicants and picked as an alternate for the show.

This better be a "celebrity" version. The show was unwatchable before they added semi-famous people. It makes it more fun and easy to follow.

I'm LOVING all the 1-2 second commercials. It just makes me smile and I can't wait until this brilliant reality show is back on the air. Cooper will be missed, but I'm still very excited!
