Barbara Walters had a different sort of view

by Brad Trechak, posted May 1st 2008 8:22PM
Barbara WaltersBarbara Walters had an affair. The broadcast journalist and co-hostess of The View revealed on an episode of Oprah (to be broadcast this coming Tuesday) that she had an affair with Senator Edward Brooke during the 1970's.

In 1967, Brooke was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate. At the time, Walters was an up-and-coming news reporter. In the interview, Walters described the Massachusetts senator as "exciting" and "brilliant". Winfrey asked Walters if she was in love, to which she replied that she was certainly "infatuated".

Mind you, Barbara has been married three times and Brooke was divorced and remarried, so neither were sweet and innocent when it came to relationships. She only plays a sweet and innocent woman on television.

The biggest question on my mind is: if Barbara Walters was going to drop this sort of bombshell in public, why didn't she do it on her own show (you know, the one she co-created) in order to boost ratings? I guess Oprah was a better venue to sell her new book.

I knew Barbara Walters was trash when she sided with other trash Rosie again Trump. But, now that she has revealed her past affair with Brooke, it only confirms how much TRASH she really is, a married man made no difference to her! Super Trash should be the name used to describe her!!

I think she admitted to being with a couple of married men. ABC is gonna have a special where she reveals all of that. Didn't she used to throw this kind of stuff in the peoples faces that she was interviewing?

I don't care what she looked like 30-some years ago. The thought alone was enough to make me vomit. TVSquad looks out for people who don't want spoilers. What about people who don't want mental images of...? I can't even type it without my throat getting backed up. There needs to be a "Possibly Disturbing Mental Image after the Jump" warning. Also, it needs to be after the jump. I know I'm going overboard, but could you change the picture to one of her from back in the day?

The better question is "Who cares"? It was over 30 years ago.

I guess you would've loved it if there was a countdown in the background on Oprah...

Seconding the "who cares, 30 years ago," and "why on earth is she admitting this information?"
