Hannah Storm heading to ESPN morning

by Allison Waldman, posted May 12th 2008 10:04AM
StormI hope Hannah Storm enjoyed sleeping late since she's been off the CBS Early Show because her new gig will be on the AM shift once again. And she'll be back talking sports. ESPN is going to announce tomorrow that Hannah Storm will anchor a new, revamped SportsCenter morning edition. SportsCenter is already on every morning, so you have to assume that by adding Storm to the mix, the folks at Disney (ESPN's parent company) are looking to pump up the old format and maybe bring in some new viewers -- like maybe those who used to watch Hannah on CBS.

Of course, there's already two other competing morning shows on the ESPN family of channels, Mike & Mike in the Morning which stars Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, and First Take (formerly known as Cold Pizza) with Jay Crawford and Dana Jacobson.

M&M was originally just a radio broadcast on the ESPN radio network, then somebody decided to put cameras on the guys and makeup on their faces so you could see as well as hear them. The chemistry with the two Mikes is what makes that show; not the visuals. However, for men in the a.m., Mike & Mike are a good listen while dressing for work.

First Take is more about interviews and hot topics. They're more like a morning show, so if Hannah Storm's SportsCenter is being conceived as a Good Morning, America with scores and highlights, how will that be different from First Take? I guess we'll learn more tomorrow when ESPN formally announced the Hannah Storm addition to the ESPN enclave in Bristol, Connecticut.

I remember listening to her back in the 80's here in Houston on the Stevens & Pruitt morning radio show. I'm glad she's getting back into sports.

I believe Hannah Storm will bring a new energy to a boring, dull show. The other info will still be there, and Hannah has covered the entire sports spectrum. Most man sportscasters don''t seem to last as long as she has.

I believe this is a good hire.

Ah, Mike & Mike is for *men* to watch while getting ready for work. I didn't realize that, so thanks for the clarification.

Anyway, First Take doesn't start til 10 a.m. so it's not a direct competitor of M&M and will only compete with SportsCenter replays.

SportsCenter needed this...or anything really. As it is now, it is just awful.

I find myself saying the same thing. It just isn't what it used to be, its just dull now.
