Confessions of a Saved by the Bell fanatic

by Debra McDuffee, posted May 13th 2008 10:01AM
mark-paul GosselaarHi, I'm Debbie and I'm a closet Saved by the Bell fan. Whew, it felt good to finally admit that. C'mon, who's going to be big and brave and confess to watching Saved by the Bell every Saturday morning when they were in high school (OK, maybe college too)? Stand tall!

So here we are, some 15-20 years later (and as I look at the dates I shamefully admit I was in college, not high school!) and AOL TV has decided to ingratiate us thirty-somethings and let us know what the original cast members have been up to all of these years, and currently.

I knew Zack, er, I mean Mark-Paul Gosselaar, had a stint on NYPD Blue, but it is nice to know that he'll be starring in a new legal drama on TNT this year.

No one else from the main cast is currently doing much, although we've seen them through the past 20 years on such hits as 90210.

A fun thing AOL TV included is some guest stars on SBTB that may have not been memorable then, but have gone on to grace our television screens weekly. Grey's Anatomy, anyone?

My trip down memory lane has been gratifying, and my confession has left my lighter, if not somewhat embarrassed.

In honesty, some time in the last five years this show hit the point where it didn't hold up and didn't hold my interest. I think this was somewhere when it hit Adult Swim, but might have been sooner.

That said, I was in elementary school when it aired, and it was a battle with my parents. It came on, if I remember, at 11:30, which posed problems as my mother usually got annoyed with me watching TV sometime between 11:30 and 12 (for reasons that I don't get; it never bothered her other times.) So I'd have to argue to catch the end every week. Extra funny, as by then I'd have been watching several hours of TV, until recently, though, I wouldn't have even been awake.

Loved this show. Watched it religiously. Was late to high school often because I'd be watching syndicated episodes while eating breakfast (Beastwars used to make me late to high school, too. Then, in college, Wings made me late to work...)

Saved by the Bell.... Ah... I learned that caffine pills are fun (I mean dangerous) from that show.

I catch the reruns on TBS too.

TheN play reruns of SBTB all the time. My wife and I find ourselves watching them all the time. I get a bunch of flak from my friends all the time but I don't care. We love the show.

After watching the show recently it's funny the subtle (or not so subtle) stuff that went on. They put those girls in the show through a lot putting them in bikini's and really tight clothes. It's hilarious to see it now, but back then I didn't really even think about it.
