Lost season 4 DVD news

by Jonathan Toomey, posted May 16th 2008 12:23PM

Lost - Season 4 DVDIs it just me or are DVD releases getting announced earlier and earlier? Whatever the case, Lost fans can plan on getting the season four DVD as a Christmas/ Hanukkah/Kwanzaa present because it doesn't come out until December 9th. Which makes sense I suppose, since the show returns in early '09.

The 5-disc set (aka "The Expanded Experience") will obviously include all 14 season four eps plus a ton of goodies. As far as DVD sets go, Lost always has great extras. According to TVShowsOnDVD.com, expect to see 5 featurettes, bloopers, deleted scenes, and audio commentaries for some of the episodes. The one goodie that really has me excited? The "Oceanic Airlines Safety Guide." Hilarious. It immediately made me think of Airtoons -- all those funny and inappropriate airline safety cards.

As with season three, there will also be a BluRay release but I've got to be honest. I have the regular season three DVDs and they look pretty damn good on my HDTV set. So I'm not convinced that shelling out the extra $40 to $50 bucks is really worth it. Yet, anyway. You can pre-order both at Amazon for way less though - $38.99 for the normal DVDs and $66.95 for the BluRay.

ummm..what? Why wouldn't they offer a significant discount since the season is only two-thirds? These sets cost them nothing to make and they've already made their profit from the show airings

you know what? Just because of this, I'm not going to buy any of the dvds and im gonna download them all instead

I am in the middle of becoming a Lost fan. My wife and I started to watch it aboyt a month and a half ago through Netflix. Man, I love it.
I blew through season 1 & 2 on normal DVD on a Blu-Ray play.
Now the Season 3 discs are all in Blu-Ray. WOW! what a difference.
If you have Blu-Ray, get it...it is well worth the extra $10 or $15 IMO.

ok, can i gripe about something? I'm a commentary junkie. I love the insights the cast and crew usually have (not all commentaries are equal) and i have come to expect a commentary track on whatever dvd i buy.

Now as far as TV dvd's go, though i have been spoiled by The Simpsons dvd's (commentary on every episode) i can understand shows that don't have the time or the desire to talk over ALL their shows but here's the gripe and how it pertains to Lost...

Lost usually has just enough commentary tracks to keep me happy (come on guys, at least 1 per disk, ok?) and there is usually one for the season premier but almost never for the season finale! I don't understand that at all. If NOTHING else, give us a track for the first and last episode of the season.

It's not just Lost, but there are a few shows i own that do this and it bugs the hell out of me. lol

Ok, sorry for the rant. Thanks for listening...

I agree, they come out way too late with these dvds now. I'm no longer watching new shows so if god forbid 2 or 3 new ones make it to year 2 or 3 and I try to catch up, it will be hard to watch 44 or 66 eps of each show in 2-4 weeks. And HBO charges twice as much for their seasons for half as many eps.

Hey Bash,

If you don't like the price of it, don't buy it. No one is sticking a gun to your head. If I decide to buy it for that price, that is my choice. I'm saying that the price is worth it based on the content. I wouldn't do the same for other shows. But thank you for your opinion.

Yeah... if you don't like the price of gas then don't buy it. Stop whining if they lowered the amount you get by a third and charge the same price.

I know where to get them for free you know. So start arguing why I shouldn't pirate the dvds. Oh because I might get caught? Oh boy. I am in a pickle now. Boohoo. Please don't raise your index finger and make me shame myself for pirating stuff monopolists release.

That tends to bother me, too. If they released TV DVDs over the summer, when there's really nothing on, you'd have plenty of time to catch up. Instead shows like 24, which I hate watching on regular television (between cliffhangers lasting a week and my busy schedule keeping me away from TVs during prime-time, I'd go insane) come out right in time to promote the new season. I'd rather them come out in time for me to watch 20 hours of television before the new season.

This, though, is why I download TV shows. I'll buy the DVD when it's out, but I'm watching the damn thing when I can. TIVO doesn't really solve this problem.

Then again, 24 lost me 8 or 10 hours into last season, so I don't know if I'll be going back to that show...
