Introducing the first annual TV Squad Awards

by Keith McDuffee, posted May 20th 2008 12:21PM
TV Squad Awards
We here at the TV Squad offices have been mulling this idea over for years now, and it's finally time we took action. Now that the network upfronts are over and we now know for certain (or, to give some a sliver of hope, near-certain) what shows aren't returning next season, we can start the process of submitting nominations - and then winners - of the TV Squad Awards (or as we sometimes call them internally, The Squaddies).

Over the next few days we'll have posts calling for nominee considerations for each of the twelve award categories. These posts are where you, the readers, should state your case for who or what should be nominated and why. Then, next week we'll post the nominees as chosen by the TV Squad team, along with a poll for the readers. Finally, in two weeks we'll submit the winners as chosen by TV Squad, along with the reader's choice award for each, based on the polls.

The list of awards categories after the jump.

The It's A Paycheck Award (Best movie actor slumming it on TV)

The Brought To You By TV Squad Award (Most blatant use of product placement)

The Arrested Development Award (Least deserving canceled show)

The Put Me Out Of This Misery Award (Renewed show that should just end already)

The Good Riddance Award (Show that was canceled and most deserved it)

The Reality Shows Have Writers? Award (Reality show most unlike reality)

The Jeopardy Award - Primetime game show requiring the most skill

The What the $*%*$% Were They Thinking Award (Biggest casting mistake)

The Adam Finley Award (For excellence in animation)

The Nuttiest Fans Award (Show with most dedicated fans)

The Excellence in Outsourcing Award (Best fake American accent)

The Most Real Unreal Award (Most realistic special effects)

What do the winners get? We've got the finest minters casting a britannium TV statuette for us as I type this. And by "minters" I mean GIMP and by "britannium" I mean #D9D919.

I think Stargate: Atlantis for the The Most Real Unreal Award, that show has biggest volume, yet most realistic effects above and beyond anything else of TV today.
Season 4 was the most impressive yet.

The Most Real Unreal Award (Most realistic special effects)
Should go to Moonlight because the portrayal of modern day vampires is astounding and very believeable and not to forget HOT. Very subtle transition, not outlandish as with previous vampire shows.

"The Arrested Development Award (Least deserving canceled show)"

That's more complicated than Lucille saying: "GOB's my fourth least-favourite child!"

The It's A Paycheck Award -- Holly Hunter in "Saving Grace"

The Brought To You By TV Squad Award -- Solo Cups on the show Greek, the show's logo is an actual Solo Cup.

The Arrested Development Award -- Journeyman is going to take this category...handsdown

The Put Me Out Of This Misery Award -- I'm going out on a limb here...AMERICAN IDOL...ugh I can't stand the show or the hype.

The Good Riddance Award -- Bionic Women, it just fell flat for me.

The Reality Shows Have Writers? Award -- The Hills...isn't that a reality show, either way I'm tired of hearing about it.

The Jeopardy Award -- Moment of Truth

The What the $*%*$% Were They Thinking Award -- Britney Spears on HIMYM, I agree with NPH this show does not need celebrity stars to be great. If I want that I'll watch Will & Grace in syndication.

The Adam Finley Award -- Family Guy--I'm not a regular watcher but everytime I do I enjoy it.

The Nuttiest Fans Award -- For me it's a toss between HIMYM and Friday Night Lights, most fans of the show go beyond "regular watchers" they are passionate about the shows.

The Excellence in Outsourcing Award -- It's a tie for me for two actors from Brothers & Sisters: Rachel Griffiths & Matthew Rhys

The Most Real Unreal Award -- (perhaps not quite in the category but still) Should go to the makeup artists on America's Next Top Model...for Dominique and Fatima to take ANY decent photos took nothing short of a miracle :)

Co Winner has to be House or Hugh Laurie for outscourcing award and just plain the best acting in a clas drama
And lets not forget our in house Vampire Mick

Go Monlight

Why not have USa or TNT pick it up CbS should be outscourced they let Moonlight go and kept How I met Your Mother Duh!!!

There should be a special category for Sci Fi like Xfiles Not my taste but Se Le Vie

Delta form New Orleans

The Brought To You By TV Squad Award *has* to go to American Idol. There's almost as much face time for Coke, Ford, and at&t as there is for the contestants (and more than Paula!)

Can I still vote for Arrested Development in the Arrested Development Best Cancelled Show awards?

(PS: VM was great, but AD was a whole other level)

And Hugh Laurie/House deserve every awasrd going after that finale - Best fake American accent will do for now.

"Can I still vote for Arrested Development in the Arrested Development Best Cancelled Show awards?"

Why not? It's the most self-referential show on the planet!

TV Squad: Can you please pester some people just to see if the movie is happening? I know it's probably a long way off but it's still only rumoured at the moment. Please put me out of my misery.

"Can you imagine how jealous that would make her? 'Where's Tobias?' 'Oh, he's just sharing a romantic horseback ride with Michael Bluth, and they're dipping each other in...' Oh, you didn't get any body chocolate?"

James Woods

Heroes with Nissan

Journeyman

According to Jim

Viva Laughlin

Uh...any reality show (except Amazing Race)

Umm....Jeopardy?

Michelle Ryan in Bionic Woman

The only animation I watch is Family Guy

Does it have to be a current show? AD or Firefly for old shows. Jericho or The Office for new shows.

Hugh Laurie for sure

Heroes
