The new Heroes trading cards

by Kristin Sample, posted May 22nd 2008 7:29AM
Kristen Bell NBC Universal and Topps have joined forced to create trading cards for the hit show Heroes. The first set is in stores now and second set will be in stores in July. Ninety cards are included in the first round, which features cast members and scenes from season one. Also, the set will contain special foil cars, flip motion cards that show before and after character morphs, swatches of costume material, and original sketches from Heroes illustrators like Tim Sale.

The first card set will include the following characters: H.R.G., Micah Sanders, Matt Parkman, Ando Masahashi, Hiro Nakamura, Claire Bennet, Nathan Petrelli, Mohinder Suresh, Sylar, and Peter Petrelli.

The second set of Heroes trading cards will include these characters: Adam Monroe, Monica Dawson, Niki Sanders, Angela Petrelli, Sandra Bennet, West Rosen, The Haitian, Molly Walker, Bob Bishop, and others from the first and second seasons. The second set of card will also feature costume pieces from characters including Claire Bennet, Elle Bishop, Monica Dawson, Peter Petrelli and West Rosen.

The cards come in packs of seven but are also available in special "hobby box" sets which have 24 packs. Each hobby box will include either an autograph card, a memorabilia card (i.e. one with a costume swatch) or a sketch card.

I got a pack of these cards at the NBC Universal press event I attended at the beginning of May. I'm not a card collector myself. But for those of you who are fans of the show and avid card collectors, this might be interesting.

It's not just Heroes. Trading cards are being produced for other television series 24, Battlestar Galactica, CSI, and Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis). Fans are hoping FOX will license Bones for trading cards.

Hollywood is also making tremendous use of trading card licensing. Recent releases include Spider-Man 3, Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal. Coming later this year watch for Kung Fu Panda, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, and X-Files: I Want To Believe cards.

The cards are modeled after the characters on the show, cardboard and two dimensional.
