Nielsen ratings for the week ending May 25

by Bob Sassone, posted May 28th 2008 7:24PM

Archuleta and CookHere are the weekly TV ratings, by number of viewers.

It will be interesting to see what the top shows are next week, since American Idol and Dancing with the Stars both had their season finales last week. And a lot of the scripted shows had their season finales too. I'm sure So You Think You Can Dance, at number 19 this week, will soar up in the ratings as spaces open up.

Hell's Kitchen finished a little higher than usual, and Ugly Betty a lot higher than usual.

1. American Idol - Weds (FOX)
2. American Idol - Tues (FOX)

3. Dancing with the Stars - Tues (ABC)
4. Dancing with the Stars - Mon (ABC)
5. Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
6. NCIS (CBS)
7. House (FOX)
8. CSI: Miami (CBS)
9. Two and a Half Men (CBS)
10. Criminal Minds (CBS)
11. Rules of Engagement (CBS)
12. CSI: NY (CBS)
13. Hell's Kitchen (FOX)
14. Deal Or No Deal (NBC)
15. Bones (FOX)
16. Shark (CBS)
17. Ugly Betty (ABC)
18. Dancing with the Stars - special (ABC)
19. So You Think You Can Dance (FOX)
20. Law and Order (NBC)

Lost better be #1 this week. If not then them Nielsen families are even bigger morons than I give them credit for and the ratings system is an even bigger piece of shit than even I imagined it to be.

How can CBS cancel Shark when it placed 16th?!? I just don't understand that. Is the demographic wrong or what. If I was Woods, I'd be a little PO'd, his name showed up quite often as executive producer and I'd bet he'd get a sweet payout if the show made it to the magic syndication number of 100 eps. Not that he's hurting for money, but still.

Hate to break it to you, Will, but the show sucks. As do many of the shows in the top 20, so it has a lot of company.

Hate to break it to you Omegaparticle, but it doesn't matter that the show sucked. If "Shark" had generated the sort of ratings during its run on Sunday nights that it did when it moved to Tuesdays for the last few episodes of its run it would have been renewed. It was the Sunday night ratings, when it followed "Cold Case" that were the big factor for CBS.

I suspect Lost will be in the top 10 (I'm hoping top 5) with its finale. Though really it SHOULD be #1, but that's just me.

I also think SYTYCD will start climbing as the summer goes on.
