Stump The King - Lost

by Paul Goebel, posted Jun 2nd 2008 4:59AM

Terry O' QuinnI got a real stumper this week and I need your help.

Samuel Quiring writes...
"Need name of old TV series pilot A few years ago (possibly many years ago) I saw part of a pilot of a TV series. The plot: the main character was trying to secure funding for a movie. I remember two hilarious scenes and would like to see them again:
(1) The main character is in a nightclub, kind of out of his league, with some slightly unsavory characters from which he's trying to get funding. Finally they agree and he's happy for a moment. Then one of them pulls out a monster knife and cuts the palm of his hand, hands the knife to our hero to do the same, and says, "let's shake on it." As I recall, the main character faints.
(2) Towards the end of show, he's giving a speech to the folks in his office telling them how they've got funding, but everyone's going to have to totally focus and not spend a penny on anything frivolous. During this, a helicopter lands and he says that he's taking a vacation for a couple of weeks in some exotic location. As part of this speech he says something really funny about some women at the office treating an accidental pinch as a sexual assault and if they can't work as a team then maybe they don't belong (that's the gist, but probably not 100% accurate). What is the name of this TV Series pilot and who is the main actor? I can picture him. I've seen him before. But I don't think I ever knew is name. Thanks."

I will be totality honest and admit that I have no freaking idea what this show is, so if anybody can help out Samuel he and I would both appreciate it.

Instead of answering the question, I would like to share my review of the Lost season finale.

I liked it.

Now for this week's question...

An early episode of Lost was titled "Walkabout." Name another show that Terry O' Quinn appeared on with an episode titled "Walkabout."

Congratulations Preach! You got it.

That is definitely the funniest friggin show ever to air on NetworkTV - Action with Jay Mohr. NEVER should have been canceled.

That's actually not from the pilot, but from episode 3, "Blood Money". Hope that helped.

Definately Action.

(to the writer who has insulted his assistant)
"No, she's my prostitute, YOU'RE my whore."

around 3 minute mark. I don't think its the same scene you described, and if it isn't they have some real affinity for blood pacts on 'Action'

It does sound like Action but Im pretty sure that Mr Goebel aka The King of TV would of recognized that. Action was all about Jay Mohr and not some office dude.

The writer was a bit of schlub and continually put upon and IM not sure if he had a second job.

Although that last scene does sound familiar. I can remember Jay Mohr standing by a door on a soundstage/wharehouse and congratulating everyone and saying something like "If its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down" then leaving for mexico or something.

it totally is "Action", jay mohr playing one of the best named characters on tv - Pete Dragon. Got it as soon as he mentioned seedy nightclub and funding for a movie. I guess this was around '99 or 2000. It did better than just a pilot too, the series is really worth checking out.

I agree with erik. I'm pretty sure it's "Action" starring Jay Mohr, Illeana Douglas and Buddy Hackett.

Samuel: that kinda sounds like an episode of the Jay Mohr comedy "Action", but I'm not sure...

That'd be "Millennium", Season 1, Episode 17.
