Spinoff madness - Is Gossip Girl next?

Every year, networks talk spinoffs. They look at their most popular shows and wonder if they could find a way to bank on the success of some of them. This is why we ended up with countless versions of CSI and Law & Order. The 2008-2009 TV season will see its crop of new spinoffs. The most talked about are 90210 and the unnamed The Office spinoff. House will also introduce a new character in the hope to give him his own show if the audience responds well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gossip Girl wants to join in on the fun. The show creators would like to have a series around Jenny Humphrey or a new character they would introduce in the second season of the hit The CW show.
This potential spinoff, set at a girls boarding school, would find its backstory in the Gossip Girl books. In the It Girl novels, a series of GG spinoff books, Jenny decides to enter a boarding school after many public embarrassments and bad decisions while trying to fit in.
This could be a good idea since Jenny is a well-liked character and many viewers relate to what she is going through. However, as The Hollywood Reporter points out, The CW already has many teen dramas on its schedule and there may not be room for a GG spinoff. If the project comes to life (one of the creators told Entertainment Weekly that spinoff talks are premature), the network has the first look at it. If The CW decides to pass, the show creators could knock on the doors of other networks such as ABC Family and MTV.
What do you think of the spinoff idea? Would you watch a series centered around Jenny or would you rather tune in to watch a spinoff featuring another character such as Georgina Sparks?
