It's an FNMTV summer

Pete WentzIt looks like MTV is making an effort (albeit a small one) to show music videos again. Tomorrow a new show called FNMTV will premiere at 8 p.m. The show, hosted by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, is a 24/7 non-stop music celebration combining the best music experiences from the TV and the web. Each week MTV will premiere new music videos from established or up-and-coming artists. Also, Fans will be able to create their own music experiences on MTV.com and choose which ones will be aired on the show.

Confirmed talent for the this summer includes Panic! at the Disco, Snoop Dogg, The Pussycat Dolls, Flo-Rida, The Ting Tings, Lil' Wayne, Duffy, Boys Like Girls, and Vampire Weekend. These artists are set for either special guest appearances or live stage performances.

Of the decision to focus the programming more on music, Senior VP Amy Doyle says, "Our audience has an insatiable hunger for the new and the fresh... We're going to be loud about what's new and use the power of MTV to engage music fans around music videos. Every week this summer we are going to highlight the most exciting artists and music and elevate the true art of the music video."

I'm still suspicious. I loved MTV back when it played mostly videos. Somewhere along the way, TRL took over along with other shows that have nothing to do with music (The Hills, Made, Super Sweet Sixteen). I almost stopped watching the Video Music Awards because I found that I had no idea about the videos being honored.

Do you think this is step in the right direction for MTV? Or is MTV's playing music videos again just a lost cause? By the way, the F stands for "feedback" and the N stands for "new."

FNMTV?. Wow! Do they mean to subliminally fixate us or are we just supposed to smile and pretend to not know the message is clearly F*CK'n MTV?
Wow, the creative juices must have really been flowing that day. It must be really, really hard to find new stuff to entice 12 year olds!
The creative directors are SOoooo.... Cool? (NOT!).
This goes to show that the (creative directors) are intent on their continued desensitizing of all that watch. The "real" world is real phony at best. Next and Parental control are completely out of control as the message here is to mock the most basic principals concerning morals and respect for ourselves and others. People do not think or act this way in the "real world". To call it entertainment is pathetic. And don't get me started on America's next top (Bulimic) er..model. It is however quite entertaining to watch how "Tyra" always manages to bully and insults young girls into believing the show has any true relevancy. Boycott MTV. It's original creators meant it to stand for (Music TeleVision). What it has become is a sexually charged medium that draws in kids to set them up for future exploitation and emptiness. Nice work Huh. They must be proud.

I am watching it right now. They play literally 5 music videos over and over and over again, all the while, idiots are commenting on the video every 5 seconds, like we care what they have to say. This is by far more annoying then TRL and MTV still sucks balls. I have seen the pussycat doll, ting tong, and snoop dog video about 3 times each in the past 48 mins since I turned on the TV. Oh, and they just played about 1 min of a linkin park video. I am blocking this channel from my TV set in protest of the suckage that is MTV!

It said 24/7 in the press release--the wording was confusing there. However, I think it's just the show airs on Friday nights then people can check it out online and make their own videos the whole week until the next show. However, that was not outlined in the press release I got.

Sorry for the confusion.

There's no '!' in Panic At the Disco anymore, fyi, lol.
But i'm a bit confused. It's a new show, so... how is it 24/7 celebration of music if it is only on like once a week?
lol, was it just a figure of speech or am i missing something?

I think the confusion is just the way the sentence started; the 'show' isn't 24/7 - it's the summer celebration - the whole summer is themed around FNMTV, just specifically Friday night's with have the show. The press release says "2008 is an 'FNMTV Summer!' What is "FNMTV?" A 24/7 non-stop summer music celebration for and by the music fans, combining the best music experiences from TV and the Web."

I think it is a nice step in the right direction - as long as they show the whole video and continue it out of the summer.
