The Greatest American Hero is making comic books

by Brad Trechak, posted Jun 19th 2008 9:21AM

SparksIt seems that a guest-stint on Heroes isn't enough, William Katt must further prove himself by starting his own comic book company, Catastrophic Comics. Their debut comic, called Sparks, is being released today.

According to the press release, the series is set in 1948 and follows Ian Sparks, a masked vigilante who discovers the high price of being a hero. Sparks was co-created by William Katt and Christopher Folino, the writer/director of the cult comedy film "Gamers."

"My goal for Catastrophic Comics is to tell original stories, with amazing art work, that don't suck. And I can't imagine a better book to launch our company with than Sparks. JM and Chris have done a superb job with this gritty book," commented William Katt.

Between this and his upcoming TV appearance, it seems that Mr. Katt is milking his former television glory for all its worth. Not that I blame him. The Star Trek actors have been doing it for decades.

You make it sound like William Katt is pathetic or something, when in truth, he's done well for himself.

Well, it was announced yesterday at Comic-Con in San Diego, that Katt's Catastrophic Comics, in conjunction with Arcana Studios, is bringing out a comic book for "The Greatest American Hero". He will be writing the storylines. Stephen J. Cannell is backing him on this. There will also be a series of "Greatest American Hero" animated shorts created for the web (with Katt, Robert Culp, and Connie Sellecca doing the voices for their respective characters) and Stephen J. Cannell has confirmed that he has finished writing the script for the feature-length movie. The original cast members will make appearances, but of course in this case will not be reprising their original roles.

So really. When you think about it, Katt isn't milking anything at all. He just happens to be successful.

More power to him. And I hope he got a piece of the pie from the TGAH box set I just bought last month!
