The Office's Mindy Kaling and Brian Baumgartner talk Office games, webisodes and sexiness

Mindy Kaling Brian Baumgartner The OfficeAh, summertime. The heat, the haze, the traffic, the lack of The Office; what's not to hate? Luckily, the brilliant folks behind The Office have been busy figuring out ways to tide us over until the fall. Starting Thursday, July 10, NBC.com will be airing Office webisodes. For those of you who like your Dunder Mifflin-ites live, Mindy Kaling (Kelly) will be hosting the Office Games in Scranton on Saturday, July 19.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in a conference call with Mindy Kaling and Brian Baumgartner (Kevin) as they discussed the webisodes, Office Games, friendly competition and the status of a few MIA Dunder Mifflin employees.

Mindy and Brian were completely gracious and answered a number of questions about not only the official topics of the call (webisodes and Office Games) but about the show in general. They didn't really spill much about what we can expect in season 5, but thanks to Mindy, we learned a little bit about what to expect from Toby (Paul Lieberstein) and Ryan (B.J. Novak). First things first:

Mindy is most excited about the food at the Office Games

Although her official job is to emcee the events, Kaling made it clear that she expects to kick some Office fan ass and dominate in basically all of the categories. While she was hoping for some sort of hot dog-eating contest, she does plan on eating "thousands upon thousands of beets" at the horrific-sounding beet-eating contest that they are having. Not only that, but she plans on "looking really sexy" while doing so, so watch out.

Brian is "huge on the internet"

Brian Baumgartner wants you to know that while Steve Carell may be the star of The Office, he is "the complete and total star of two-minute clips online." This, of course, is evidenced by the fact that this batch of webisodes focuses on Kevin's gambling problem. In this series of four episodes, Kevin tries to find a unique way to pay back debts he owes to Stanley (Leslie David Baker), Oscar (Oscar Nunez) and Darryl (Craig Robinson). I'm not giving too much away in saying that the solution just may involve sweet, creamy Malone's Cones.

Friendly Rivalries

Brian wanted to make sure we all knew that Mindy is only hosting the Office Games in Scranton because he would "kick everyone's ass" in all of the competitions. In addition, Mindy, who was originally hired as a writer (and still has a 70/30 split between acting and writing on the show), was only brought in as an actor in order to "offset [Brian's] extreme sexiness." Since becoming a producer, however, Mindy has managed to exert her power: while Kevin is still in the same Dockers and warm wool jackets that he's always been in, Kelly Kapoor has gotten cuter and more fashionable every season. Make no mistake: Brian Baumgartner notices this and it makes him bitter.

What's coming up in Office land

We didn't get much scoop on either season 5 or the spin-off, as I'm sure both Mindy and Brian were told to stay away from spoilers under the threat of death. However, Mindy did say that while she isn't going to be working on the spin-off, she's really excited for the writers who are, because from what she knows about it, it looks amazing.

Another question that everybody seemed to be interested in is what exactly is going on with Toby and Ryan this season. In the last few episodes, Ryan was arrested and Toby moved to Costa Rica. Since Ryan is pretty much definitely guilty and Toby's replacement seems to be sticking around, are we going to see these guys again? Mindy tells us that fans "will be satisfied with how much we see Toby and Ryan," and goes on to add that we "haven't seen the last of Toby." I find it interesting that she says we haven't seen the last of Toby, not "Toby and Ryan." Was it a slip or a clue? Post your thoughts below.

I'm OK with not seeing more Ryan. I preferred him as a temp. Toby, I always enjoy his little quips, and hope to see much more of him.
