Marsha Mason to guest on Army Wives

Marsha on BroadwayKim Delaney is not Quinn Cummings, but the actresses share one thing in common: Marsha Mason as a mom, on screen that is. Army Wives has cast Marsha Mason, Oscar-nominated actress for The Goodbye Girl, as Claudia Joy Holden's mom. She will be appearing on at least two episodes this season, visiting Fort Marshall and her daughter, the general's wife.

Marsha, who is actually has been Oscar-nominated as Best Actress four times in all (Cinderella Liberty, Chapter Two, Only When I Laugh), will guest on Army Wives as Charlotte Meade, Claudia's socialite mother. Her relationship with her daughter is strained and her visit comes without warning.

I'm thinking that there will be family issues at play here, especially since Charlotte was not in attendance for Amanda's funeral earlier this season. Does Charlotte blame Claudia Joy for her granddaughter's death in that explosion at the Hump Bar?

Will she dredge up a lot of old hurts that exist between them? It's just speculation, but the life of an officer's wife must seem very pedestrian to a society type like Charlotte Meade. She probably thinks her daughter threw her chances away by marrying Michael. Maybe she's coming to South Carolina to get Claudia to let Emmalin come and live with her up north?

We've been told that 18 years ago, Claudia Joy was a focused Harvard Law School student who dropped out to marry Michael Holden and become an Army wife, giving up a promising career. Sounds like Mama may have been miffed by Claudia's choice and her subsequent life moving from base to base as Michael was deployed.

Marsha's shows are slatted for mid-August. The actress was seen last season on Lipstick Jungle, by the way, as an award-winning screenwriter who was procrastinating in delivering a final script, forcing Wendy (Brooke Shields) to find out why she was holding up a $30 million movie. Marsha was very good, proving that she's moved from ingenue to character actress with ease.

Did you mean the show Family when you said Marsha Mason was the mom of Quinn Cummings on TV? Because Sada Thompson was the mom on that show.
