Christopher Gorham gets a new role

C. Gorham Ugly BUgly Betty's Henry is going to Harper's Island. Actor Christopher Gorham has been cast on the new mystery Harper's Island. Good for Chris, but what about his other character, Henry, the lovable geeky accountant on Ugly Betty? That remains in question.

On Harper's Island, which CBS is calling a Ten Little Indians/Twin Peaks-style horror mystery in which a wedding party on a Seattle island find themselves cut off from the mainland with a murderer on the loose. The killer is doing away with characters week after week and everyone is a suspect or a victim.

In addition to Christopher Gorham, actor Bill Pullman (Sleepless in Seattle) is also in the show as a jovial, drunken Uncle Marty.

The Hollywood Reporter couched this story as a "spoiler alert," but there's no definitive word from Ugly Betty that Henry is going to be permanently out of the picture. Gorham wouldn't be the first actor to appear on more than one show in the same season, especially since Harper's Island is not set to premiere till early 2009, the midseason.

In CBS's preview of Harper's Island, Henry, the groom-to-be, was played by Ryan Merriman (Comanche Moon). We now know that Christopher Gorham is the actor for the role, so it begs the question, what happened to Ryan? His official web site reports that he's playing Henry, the groom. Hmm... the plot thickens.

The Hollywood Reporter states unequivocally that "Gorham won't return to Betty," but does not site a source. It also speculates that Freddy Rodriguez -- Betty's other beau, Gio -- is too busy with features to be coming back for more than a few episodes of Ugly Betty.

The trade publication may be right, especially in light of the casting of Val Emmich as a potential new love interest for Betty. But what if they're wrong?

I think that the situation is much more fluid than we've been told. Christopher Gorham's character on Betty has been in and out since he first appeared, in part because Henry is a new father and committed to being there for his son. With Charlie, the baby mama, in Phoenix, Henry's been heading out of NYC for a long time. However, he can also easily be written back into the story.

On Harper's Island, too, that Henry could be knocked off in the first episode! Only the creators know for sure and -- so far -- they're not talking.

If they're already casting a THIRD love interest for Betty, I think Henry is way out the door.

I care not a wit about Ugly Betty. I am intrigued by Harper's Island, as long as this show has an expiration date, and it's a pretty short one, cause a premise like that does not seem like it could last more than a season.

I hope he leaves Ugly Betty. Out of all the things on that show, the geek love triangle is the least interesting. I could care less about Betty's love life when there are more interesting stories like her place at Mode, her writing career, etc.

They really should list everybody as main cast even though some are going to be killed, to keep the mystery going. It'll be awesome as long as they manage to keep the spoilers down, or else we'll know who's dying every week.

So, first we get Charlie from Heroes as Charlie from Ugly Betty... now we're getting Henry from Ugly Betty as Henry from Harper's Island? What's up with this?

Thanks for the info. Why yes, the reporter never cited a source. So it could be just speculation. It would be weird if the producers/writers would start new season from scratch and throw everything out of the window (and even less now that the ratings have been low). Probably, we´ll get to see plenty of Gio and Henry next season.
I hope to hear some positive news very soon.
