Jason Priestly says he "did his time" on 90210

Jason PriestleyDon't expect to see Brandon Walsh hanging out with the rest of the gang at The Peach Pit when the new 90210 debuts this fall. Jason Priestly, who played Brandon throughout 90210's original incarnation has revealed that he has in fact been approached by CW execs about reprising his role--but that he has turned them down.

Priestley, who is currently promoting a one episode directing stint on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, seems to be more interested in taking a seat behind the camera than donning his acid-washed jeans in front of it. While Walsh appeared in nearly 250 episodes of the teen soap, he also directed 18 of them. Despite turning down the CW's original offer, he seems quite interested in taking a seat on the director's chair.

Talking to reporters, Priestley expressed excitement at the prospect of directing former castmates Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty. "That would be a ton of fun," he said, "They're talking to my people about seeing if they can slot me in over there; I directed more episodes of 90210 than anybody." While that may not be entirely true, he certainly directed more episodes than any other cast members (Both Garth and Luke Perry directed two episodes each).

While I like the idea of seeing some of the original cast back on 90210, it's going to be important for the show to make its own name for itself, rather than becoming a parade of familiar faces. I never felt that Brandon Walsh was so compelling that we needed to see what he's been up to. Brenda is really the Walsh twin with all of the unanswered questions (what happened after she moved to London?). If Priestly wants to come back and direct a few episodes, why not? He seems to have done a decent enough job on the first series.

What do you think? Are you dying to catch up with Brandon, or is a behind-the-scenes role good enough?

Seriously, how many Gallaghers and McDuffies are there? Should this page be called UK Squad? Or Irishquad? ;-)

With as successful as both Perry and Priestly have become, I can see why they would refuse a chance to return to the roles they are known for.

Luke Perry doesn't seem to be at all interested in returning either.
