Who should replace William Petersen on CSI?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 16th 2008 3:02PM

William PetersenWe told you yesterday about William Petersen leaving his role as Gil Grissom on CBS' CSI. Now comes word that a bunch of actors have either been asked to take his place or have at least been talked about taking his place.

First on the list is John Malkovich, who was actually asked to take over the role but said 'no' (that would have made him a strong contender for this award next year). Other names that have been brought up include Kurt Russell and Laurence Fishburne.

Wow, those are two exciting names, actually. Two strong movie actors with TV ties. I can picture both of them in the role and really giving the show a little jolt. Personally, I think they should hire Tim Daly, have the team go private, and change the show's title to Eyes.

After the jump, some more names that might be added to the list...

Who should replace Petersen?
Kurt Russell152 (26.4%)
Laurence Fishburne114 (19.8%)
Mandy Patinkin76 (13.2%)
James Woods47 (8.2%)
James Gandolfini32 (5.6%)
Geena Davis29 (5.0%)
Tim Daly50 (8.7%)
Andy Dick29 (5.0%)
Other (say in comments)46 (8.0%)

How about Ben Browder? Great actor, great looks and intelligent performance in any role he has had in the past ( Farscape and Stargate SG1, Party of Five and others).

How about Jack Scalia?? And how about a real romance with Catherine Willows?
Without Petersen, CSI will probably not be as good.

Biggest problem here is they can't possibly replace Petersen, so why even try?

CSI is great franchise but the producers are gonna lose it if they don't know how to have a revolving cast. Shows like Law & Order or better yet ER have a way of introducing new characters while keeping the old ones around just long enough so viewer can get used to the new character.

Grissom's replacement should be none other than Kathrine or Eckel (sp?). Then promote the other lab techs (asian guy and the other girl) as field officers.

The could even swap characters from one CSI show to another. Have Gary Sinise's character take a trip to Vegas and sorta fill in for Grissom until someone within is promoted.

Keeping the franchise alive and fresh means having a revolving cast, because the 'cases' and stories get redundant after while.

Another suggestion Neia McDonnough (sp?). An attractive man with a lot of tv experience: Boomtown, Third Watch, Traveler just to name a few.

If Andre Braugher wasn't supposed to be in the upcoming Ray Romano show I think he would be great.
